I have a non-contract customer with an MX-M264N 169k that they claim jams a few times a day, printing and copying. Sometimes it tells them there's a jam with arrows pointing to the paper path. Other times, it reboots. Comes back up and shows jam in the paper path. After removing the paper, it will work again for a while. They sent me a couple text pics this week of the screen so I know it's jamming.
However, it has zero jams in the jam log in 22-3. I reset the jam log a year ago when I was there last. I was baffled for a minute. I forced a jam by opening the side door, no jam code logged. I did it again with the front cover, no jam code. Then I put a folded paper in the paper path with the covers staying closed so it jams AND then it recorded the jam that time. Never will it record a jam by opening the cover, though. Maybe that's normal for these models.
My thoughts are that during the printing process, the copier thinks a cover came open due to a faulty/dirty front door switch. Looks like it's the same switch for the front and side door. So the customer sees a jam, but it never records a jam in the log. I checked the jam codes in the manual and there's no jam designated for open cover while copying like my Kyocera machines do. This still doesn't explain the rebooting, but it's the only thing that makes sense other than a power or pwb issue. FW is up to date and reflashed. (latest from 2018 lol) I cleaned the front door switch as well as I could and ran 50 then another 50 perfectly.
Would anyone have any insight on my though process. Or ideas.
