    [Error Code] U5-30 Code

I have a U5-20 (NOT 30) error on a MX5070 which is miles away, after speaking with the customer, the tray lifts the original up to the feed rollers but it then doesnโ€™t do anything and throws the error. Iโ€™m thinking probable paper pick up/paper feed drive motor but could it be the board?

anyone have experience of this error

    thanks

We have not seen a 30 but we have seen several U5-20. I would take an ADF pwb. First look for paper clips or staples laying on the pwb. You might just be able to remove them if they are there and it will clear. Also make sure you cover the area in the rear frame of the ADF where clips and staples can fall through.

Could also be the the ADF doesn't know when the original tray has lifted. Not sure what arm or sensor that is.

Thanks, you are right, it is a U5-20, I will order a board, would you order a motor, or do you think it is more likely to be the board

Our records show we have had five of these. Four of them we cleared and updated the firmware. One of them there were two paper clips on the pwb which required a pwb replacement.

There is a bulletin about replacing the ADF pwb and then getting a E6-11. If this happens you will also need to change the ADF CCD to a new style. This might only be for the MX-xxx1 series though.

          What mloudy said!
Paperclips and staples are a big cause of these.
The paperclip can be very hot to touch, but the board will still function after removing the paperclip!

I began plasti dipping boards to avoid the whole paperclip fiasco. Was happening way too often

My records show I have had 2 of these, both on 3070's. Each one resolved with removal of jammed media. Each one I reflashed firmware.

The the above mentioned though, always check to see if there are screws, paperclips, and staples that are touching the ADF board...

              Good luck.

If you order the board don't forget the DF white calibration sheet Adjustment 14A2.

We replaced the main motor in the DF on a machine we just installed and it died during demo. They do fail!
