Hello! I have an office printer Sharp MX-M283N that I am trying to get to scan from PC/Desktop. The printer is hooked up to almost all computers and prints from PC just fine. It also copies when I load to and copy from the machine directly. However, when I look at scanners it doesn't get recognized as a scanner, and when I try to add new scanner or scan from PC it is not recognized as a scanner. I've updated the drivers, downloaded the Network Scanner Tool Lite. I do not have Sharpdesk which is constantly mentioned in the manual.

Re: Help with Sharp MX-M283N - Print to PC in 2021
Network Scanner Tool lite is FANTASTIC, and easier to use than Sharpdesk. So don't worry.
I have had a few reasons why the MFP was found on AutoDetect.
I would check the following:
- Make sure the copier has the latest firmware available.
- Try running Windows Firewall Unblock Utility in the Network Scanner Tool Folder as ADMIN.
- Try running Network Scanner Tool as Admin.
- Check Copier Gateway
- Check Copier DNS
- and lastly, just happened today: Check IPCONFIG.
- We had a client today where NST didn't detect because they have both Ethernet and WLAN active on PC. Ethernet was in error state with IP address 169.x.x.x
- As soon as ethernet was disconnected, the program detected the printer just fine.
Good luck! -

Thank you so much for replying! I am at my wits end trying to get this printer to get going, and getting help online for it has been a little difficult. I haven't been able to try this but I have Wednesday planned to get this fixed, so I will definitely try this out!Comment

Re: Help with Sharp MX-M283N - Print to PC in 2021
you can try several methods
1) scan to folder (smb) but u need to enable smb 1.0 on your pc
2) using 3rd part ftp program
3) using sharp network scanning tool lite ( very easy and recommended)
4) scan to email with smtp/dns setup correctlyComment

It's disabled on Microsoft for a reason, specifically it's a major network security risk. Google "Smbv1 Ransomware/ WannaCry/ Eternal Blue Attacks".
Use SMBv2 enabled on Microsoft PC, and update firmware of MFP to the latest firmware, which has SMBv2 support.
Good luck.Comment
