    Download the MSDS sheets from IDNC and compare the chemical composition of the 2 developers.

      I think the difference is the toner. As I read here somewhere that when they switched from 60 to 61 toner it is because the 61 toner was reformulated to help with the fuser troubles. In my opinion you can use the 60 developer. If you are using the 61 toner it will soon replace the toner that came in the developer. The 60 toner will not fit into the 71 models but will fit the 70 models.

        They are the same. They don't even make 60 anymore, both use 61 now. Bulletin 20012

            If you're ever in a bind, you can successfully use MX51 dev in replacement of MX61 dev.
            Done this heaps of times to use up old stock. Had zero problems in low and high volume environments.
            Just replace and calibrate as you normally would. Remember, dev replenishment occurs on these models anyway, so new/correct dev is going in and it cycles the old dev out.
