Yes, I believe they end in an M or something stating they are metered. We had a customer that ordered one for their machine and they do not work in non metered copiers. From what I understand this is something new, I have not heard of any firmware for it though. I'm not really sure how it all works, it must be similar to the Xerox style of metered vs non metered machines with CRUM chips being programed for that particular serial #.
You could try ordering the CRUM chips and replacing them, possibly.

Sharp Authorized CCR for almost a decade and I never heard of metered Sharp Carts until a few months ago.
