    Arm 277 scanning problem

I installed the MX-NSX1 for a customer so they could do network scanning and it worked fine, but I wasnt aware that I needed to put the product key code in the copier or it would act as a "trial version".
Well needless to say it now comes up with scanner option not available. I have tried to input the product key but it wont allow it. It keeps coming up saying invalid.
I believe that the scanner has somehow been completely shut off and the area that I am trying to put it in isnt for the scanner. I tried reinstalling the software and that didnt work either. I also noticed that when you look at the web based interface that the scanner option says error 936

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn it back on in the tech modes, and if so what sim would it be. Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.

My machine suppliers tech support doesnt seem to have any answers for me and the customer is getting upset with this prob. Time is important as they owe me money for the work and the software that I paid for and theyr not paying untill it is working (I cant blame them)

You got the NSX1, did you get the unlock code from the Japanese web site?

Sharp's versatile lineup of digital MFPs offers secure, high-quality, environment-friendly document solutions that keep pace with your growing business.

    KeyUser
    key000323

fill the form out with serial number from machine and application number and you will be issued an unlock code (be sure everything is correct, you get one chance)

If you have done the above and it is not working did you install the required 128meg mem expansion? This is need for scanning, I believe you can enable the demo without it however you need it for the real deal.

That was what my supplier did and I am not sure, but I think they may have used a wrong serial # for the machine there were two 5s at the beginning, but they skipped those and told me they werent needed. As I said, I have an "unlock" code but it doesnt take.

This has become a nightmare for me and the customer is getting pissed and I dont blame them

That is not correct. Typical Sharp serial number is in this format 8505776Y00
The last two zeros are not important, the first two digits are essential.

When you enter key ops and enter Product key does the option show up for network scanning? If you don't have the RAM installed on the network board the product key button does not show up.

Did the supplier send you a copy of page sent by Sharp with the product key or just read it off over the phone? The page from Sharp should have the model name, serial number, and product key. Also, as Mansart said, there is a difference between the serial number on the machine & the one used by Sharp in this product key registration, with the last 2 digits being dropped. Also, might want to check sim 25-57 to make sure the machine is set as an AR-M277 and not something else (per Sharpnet).

              Mansart yes 126mb is installed

Lawrence No, thier is no "network scanning available on the display panel of the copier, but it does appear in the web splash page with an error code 936

Oldnr They read it to me over the phone ... I confirmed it twice with them and our #s all match

Thanks all for your responses ....

Is it possible that if I were to go to the Japanese page link you supplied, to start all of this over from the beginning? I am guessing thats where my vendor got the numbers.

Also ... I am wondering if because I didnt put the product code into the copier at the time of the initial installation of the software if this is what is causing my problem. I tried reinstalling the software on one of the puters, but it wouldnt make a difference. I do get a place to put in a code but I dont think it is for the scanner and I believe that is why it comes up as invalid.

One more thing .... I dont know if I said this already but it did work as a networking scan for two weeks before it stopped ... I do believe that it somehow is related to the system thinking it was only a demo .... so if that were true how would one go about making it a full version if the customer actuallly waited till the demo was over. In other words ... what is the actual procedure to change a demo to a full version after the demo has expired.

This is becoming frustrating ... and once again .. thanks ... you guys have already given me far more info than my vendors tech support line.

No, once the Application number is used you cannot re-enter that Application number.

As to the normal procedure.......when you purchase the scan kit for the 277 what you receive a two CD set and a booklet. On the cover of this booklet is the "Application Number". At the Japanese web site you enter machine model, serial number and Application number, you are given a 20 digit product key (unlock code)

At this point, at machine enter "Custom Setting" Go to Key Op mode enter access code (default "00000"). Scroll down until you see button labeled "Product Key" and press it. Chose which option you are installing, I believe your choices are Email Diagnostics, PostScript Kit, Network Scanning.

If these options are listed in black text on white background, they are not installed. If white text on black means they are installed.

Once you select the option you are installing you will see a screen where you enter the 20 digit Product code obtained from Japanese web site. Once entered select "OK" then cycle power.

                    That is the procedure...

Ok you and I are on the same page .... When I go to custom settings, the only option that appears, I believe, is post script. Network Scanning isnt there ... I will be stopping there today, and I will check to see exactly all the choices. For some reason, the machine has locked Network Scanning out as an option, and I am now wondering if I need to get a new kit or if there is a way to turn it back on

Try reseating the memory, you said you installed the additional 128 memory, did you make sure you installed it on the print board and not the main board.

If memory is installed on print board, go to sim 22-10 ( I believe it is 10) this will show you machine info including extra memory......we want to ensure the machine is seeing the memory.

This memory is required to scan

If the network scanning button is missing the machine is not seeing the memory on the AR-P17 (network kit).

You must use a minimum of 128 mb SODIMM. The network kit uses the small sticks of ram that laptops use shown below. Make sure you got the right stuff. If i remember it's PC133 SD ram

The main copier uses the big sticks of ram desktop computers use for the imaging memory if you do larger job builds.

I just got back from the customer and they dont have the right memory. I checked the printer brd and it only had a Prog. rom on it ... the dimm slot is empty.
