Hi everyone,

I have a customer with a sharp AL-2020 desktop copier.

they have phoned to complain of a screetching noise comming from it.

before i drive all that way for such a small machine has anyone had this before???

any help appreciated.

I haven't looked inside one of these toner cartridges but many of the Sharp toner cartridges are similar. It is possible that the machine is low on toner. I believe that sometimes the toner scraper inside that empty hollow plastic cartridge scrapes and makes noise.

Check to make sure the Mirror lock is off. The older versions of that machine were terrible for having the mirror lock pushed on accidently and the stepper motor squeals. Give them a call and have them look on the left hand side of the copier were the paper comes out and see if the arrow is pointing to the unlock position. Will this thing even make a copy or just squeal?

As posted above when the toner gets low on these machines the toner blade which is just a mylar will make a scraping noise especially when near empty as the toner motor is running for a while trying to scrape the last bit of toner out. I would not call it a squeeling though, more like a scraping sound then a slap as the blade comes around.
