I have an mxm620n installed in a school that seems to lock up when a print job is sent to the copier. If you shut the machine off and turn it back on it will go ahead and print the job. They are running mostly mac os 10.5. I don't even know where to start with this issue. I did go there and update the firmware, however that did not fix the problem. If anyone as any ideas at all please let me know. I am lost on this issue!! Thanks in advance for any help!!

A few things to look into....
Check the Job Log data has not exceeded 60,000 jobs. If yes, save & delete the job log from the machine, as this will cause the same problem you are experiencing, or very slow ripping.
Alternatively, make sure the firmware is at least p3.00.D0 (MXNBX1) and then you won't need to clear the job log all the time.
Check the HDD operation, R/W tests etc etc in sim 62. Random or common lockups during printing on these models can definitely be a problem with the HDD. Format or replace.
On your port settings, make sure you are using SC port only. SC2 port utility is only supported by the MX color machines. Incorrect port settings will cause print spooler lockups. -
Hey wazza

Hey Dustin,
I'm not a Mac person either, so I dont know if there are different port settings used in the Mac driver. I honestly have no idea. Thats when I get our IT dept involved.
The SC2 port info is located within the settings of the print driver of a windows PC. If you cant find anything to do with SC ports in the Mac driver, dont worry about it.Comment

Set Nic speed to fixed instead of auto. Gigabit switchs confuse 10/100 auto negotiation.
Had the same exact issue with macs.Comment

Not a bad idea at all.
Here is the procedure:
To fix the Ethernet speed of the "Soft NIC", enter
Sim 55-03 and change SoftSW 9 as follows:-
Bit 5-6: 10Mbps/100Mbps setting:-
0-0 ==> Automatic recognition (Default)
0-1 ==> 10MBps
1-0 ==> 100MBps
Bit 7-8: Full duplex/Half duplex setting:-
0-0 ==> Automatic recognition (Default)
0-1 ==> Half duplex
1-0 ==> Full duplex
Power cycle the device for the settings to take effect.
Note for anyone interested: MX colour series machines are not the same switches.Comment

A question about this. You mentioned the Job Log loading up. Is this something that can happen on the MX2600 too. We have one that will print about 1 page every 30 seconds or so. Is this something we should be looking into?I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.Comment

The job log problem was only an issue with the Jupiter2's. There was a firmware fix for this, otherwise each time the job log got to 60K, the machine wouldn't print anything, but the spooler would say job completed. I have never heard anything about the Pastel2 having the same issue. There is nothing in the firmware revisions list saying this was fixed by a new version. We have plenty of Pastel2's out there that have done way more than 60,000 jobs and not having the same issue as the Jupiter2's. Definitely not something you should look into Gene. I'd say your machine is OK.
Connect your laptop with a crossover cable to your Pastel2 and print your 'slow' documents that way. You will straight away see if its a document or network speed issue. Try printing the 'slow' documents on another Pastel2 in your workshop, just for good measure.Comment

Great news. From past experience, this issue won't come back. Most of our lock ups were caused by the HDD. I only mentioned the job log data problem, as this caused a few headaches early on, before the firmware upgrade fix for it.Comment

I am still having the same issue....not sure what else to do next. I set the NIC speed, and formatted the HDD. Should I replace the HDD?? or should I stat looking elsewhere for the problem??
thanks!!Comment

You can also vary the Nic settings.
Look at print driver versions that correspond with their Mac OS closely.
There are other ways to see where TCPIP network
and data stops or bottlenecks. I use a program called Wireshark that intercepts
and logs all commuication between the copier and the network.
Wireshark is a program not intended for the faint at heart.
The easiest way is to print directly from the Mac to the copier, eliminate the network.
If it prints anything and everything its not the copier.
Good LuckComment

a little late in the sequence but have they updated their os 10.5 software? The 10.4 and 10.5 software for macs had some unusual problems. I don't know if this relates to your problem but i know with some of our sharps and mac 10.4 and 10.5 there were some issues, including lockup of print jobs!! Just a thought.
Good luck.

did the update fix the problem or cause the problem??Comment
