    Can't rename files in Sharpdesk

I have a customer that used to be able to rename documents on her Sharpdesk. Now when she tries to rename them she gets a message, "If you change file name extension, the file may become unusable." When she hits OK, the docunment gets a bid slash/zero through it and indeed it becomes unusable. I tried dragging the docunment to her computer desktop and renaming it, but the same thing happened...Ideas?? Thanks in advance.

BTW - she has adobe 9

Is she renaming the document or the extension? If she is just renaming the document, try loading Sharpdesk 3.2v1.40, it took care of a lot of problems. If she is using Windows 7, you'll need SD 3.3.

Yep, sounds like you are renaming the file extension, not the file name.

Manually give it a new name with '.pdf' at the end of the new file name and see if it keeps the correct format, instead of just giving it a new name without the extension (which is normally done automatically).

I've also heard similar things can happen if the HDD space on that particular PC is running very low. Check the HDD space remaining is OK.

Email the document to another PC, exactly as it appears from Sharpdesk and try renaming it there. Could be a problem locally on that PC.........??

I have had this happen with older versions of Sharpdesk and wound up just upgrading to v3.2 as Zootech mentions. Took care of the issue.

        Good luck. Bil

Shut off your "show file extensions" and you will be able to rename the file under sharpdesk. heres the steps.
          • Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
          • Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, do one of the following:
            • To hide file extensions, select the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.
            • To display file extensions, clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.

I have had this problem alot and this has always fixed it.

Dustin...YOU DA MAN! Worked like a charm. Big thank you.
Thanks to everyone else for your input. I went with Dustin's idea first since that was the easiest to try.
bilyahn - You live in a beautful part of the country, but I'm sure you knew that already. I'm in Sacramento, but I have occasion to get up to Quincy.
