    Sharp mx-2600N 'please wait' message...

    Hey,

Yesterday i serviced a mx-2600 that stalled on start-up. The machine stays in the starting cyclus, and there's nothing i could do, even not bringing the machine in standby mode. No reaction when pushing the panel or buttons. After rebooting, the chance is 50-50 that the machine passes the startup and the customer can use the machine for a certain time.

We replaced the HDD, and made a backup from the webpage, also with simulation 56-02.
After replacement i got the 'ICM unusual' message and booted the machine with new firmware. Then i made an import of hdd and nvram. After this i had to reboot the machine twice because the same problem occured. So i don't think the problem had something to do with the hdd, but what should be the problem then....?

Before making high costs, i want to know if somebody had a similar problem like mine. I should think that there's a problem with the eeprom or memory or something. Maybe the controller?

    Any ideas?

    regards,
    Froota

Id try replacing the memory or at least swapping from a known good machine. I know that the MXs dont do shit right with bad memory.

Yep, definitely sounds like faulty System Memory to me. MX machines need good System Memory to fully bootup. I've seen a few now that fail to bootup, and when the system memory is either tested in Sim 60-01 or installed in a laptop, it comes up as NG (faulty) or displays a different memory size than what it actually is (eg 512Mb shows as 128Mb).

There is a very small chance it could be the MFP not writing/reading memory properly, but I doubt it. You'd more likely get an E7-01 code on bootup. First replace the system memory.

        Ok, thx in advance.
I will order the system memory and maybe an eeprom for sure, and will give feedback if there's a solution.

        thx,

It's pointless ordering an eeprom, as it will need to be programmed by Sharp first. Just order the system memory. If you have a few of these machines in the field, you should maybe have the memory in your car stock. Its always a good diagnostic tool.

wazza is right. techs should carry memory with em always. BCs and MXs are all prone to memory trouble. I dont usually order my memory from sharp. We just use kingston ram and have never had an issue yet. dont waste your bucks on the eeprom. might be a good idea to check the hard disk cable connection since its right there too. its easy to knock loose if youre not paying attention to what youre doing and will cause you hell. good luck.

                Nice one!

Remember this problem, because if you have many MX machines, you will see this again.
