    Mx-3100n falling off network

    Hello all
I could use some help with this one. I have an MX-2600N at a customers site that keeps falling off thier network. Printer says offline. When this happen you can not even ping it. almost as if the line is dead but the communication lights are on on the cat5 plug. I have swapped the memory chips on the mfp board, and the problem is still there!! Today I think I will go swap the entire NIC (MFP board). Just wondering if anyone has ever had a similar issue. ohh yeah and I also set the NIC speed, did a printer memory clear, and reinstalled print drivers on the PC's. Thanks for any help you can give!!!

Check to see if it is connected to a GigaBit switch. Quite a number of machines (of different brands) seem to have a problem of dropping the network after sitting idle. One solution is to place a cheap hub between the machine and the GigaBit switch. Another is to try and configure the NIC and/or switch from auto detect to 100Mb.

Any chance you tried a direct connection to your laptop with a crossover cable? Anytime I come across any network issue, I always try to isolate the issue, by working out if it is their network/network cable or the actual machine causing this.
You have done the right thing with the NVRAM clear, but also run a NIC reset as a precaution and enter a static IP address. Print the custom setting list. See if the network address is holding & prints out correctly. If you ever see 'Zeroconfig' mentioned in the network area, you have another machine or PC using the exact same network address.
If your laptop & crossover cable still have the same problem, then the NIC has gone on the MFP board. Haven't seen it yet on any new Pastel2, but saw it a few times on the Pastel1's.

The IP address is holding and I have done a NIC reset 3 times. Each time the machine works for 2 or 3 days and then falls offline again. I have swapped the entire MFP board assembly (HDD and all) to see if that will fix it. If that doesn't I will probably try to put a switch in behind the machine and see if that will help. THANK you so much for your input guys!!!

I had a similar issue with a MX2700N years ago. It would work great for days, then just drop offline for hours, then come back. Traced the fault to a network cable running from a rear office PC/network hub which had been wedged into a door, and crushing the internal cables. You could run a continuous ping test and it would be OK for hours, but all of a sudden it would timeout.
          Double check the cabling Dustin.

I would love to check all the cabling, however this machine is on a HUGE network at a hospital and thier I.T. department won't even consider it to be their fault. So, pretty much my goal is a rule out the copier being the problem 110%, then I can crush thier "our network is flawless" dreams!!! (I am a little bitter towards I.T. people that never want to take the blame)

Thats why I mentioned about connecting the machine straight to your laptop, with your cabling. This testing will rule out the machine being at fault.

If the problem only happens occasionally, or at random, its more likely to be their network at fault rather than the machine. A problem with the NIC/MFP will give the fault all the time.

Try checking the driver settings,go to properties, then ports, check configure port if you see an icon that says SNMP make sure it's unchecked I had a MX2300 lock up like that because of this.I don't know what it means but it worked fine afterwards. Many thanks to MAnsart for that tip.

I'm with you there. It is always our machines fault even after I prove otherwise!!!!

There is a bulletin similar to this TT-14041. As mentioned above, it states to un-check SNMP. I also agree with Wazza about the direct line with a crossover. I love to crush the dreams of infallible IT personnel.

                      Fix ethernet speed

Hi, have you tried fixing the ethernet speed?

                      SIM 55-3 ==> SoftSW 6
                      1: 0 = Auto, 1 = Manual
                      2: 0 = 100Base-TX, 1 = 10Base-T
                      3: 0 = Full duplex, 1 = Half duplex
                      4: 0 = 100Base-TX, 1 = 1000Base-T

Just change SW6 Bit 1 from 0 to 1 everything else is default.
