    parts swap

A recent post discusses swapping dev from model to model etc. what about tranfer belts? both primary and secondary, can they be swapped from say a mx2700 to a mx3100 or 4100? what combinations have been tried and deemed to work ok?

We have tried & regularly interchange belt units between machines, but it completely depends on the series.

MX2300/2700 primary & secondary belt units fit & work in MX3500/4500. You do need to ensure the heat-sink is installed on the MX3500/4500's cleaning unit (the 2300/2700 belt unit does not come with this). The extra heat from the 3500/4500 fuser sitting directly above the cleaning unit will lead to failure of the cleaning blade (within 100K) without the heat-sink installed.

MX3500/4500 primary & secondary belt units fit & work in MX2300/2700.

MX2600/3100 primary & secondary belt units fit & work in MX4100/5000.

MX4100/5000 primary & secondary belt units fit & work in MX2600/3100.

MX5500/6200/7000 primary & secondary belt units fit & work in MX6201/7001.

MX6201/7001 primary & secondary belt units fit & work in MX5500/6200/7000.

Dont interchange between series. .. eg MX2300 belt installed in MX4100. Completely different design for a start, different frame, different belt material. Waste toner/cleaning assy is at different side.

All of the above is tried, tested & proven over many years. I dont care about anyone saying this does not work, because quite simply IT DOES. There have been numerous posts here over the years (which I have been part of) that ask this question, and the same answers I have given here have been denied by others.
Go ahead, use whatever you want. I work on these every day, nothing but these. I know what works & what doesnt... and I'm happy to continue this, as well as pass this info on.

I just re-read what I put down here, and I want to appologise, because I went on abit of a rant & it sounds abit rude of me.

When I was writing this, I was thinking of the pr*ck who PM'ed me last year when this topic was mentioned in another post, saying that I was a liar & there was no way I should even recommend interchanging parts.

I pointed out at the time, that if you look at the parts breakdown list side-by-side of different belt units and belt kits, they are the same, only having 1 or 2 minor differences (mainly cosmetic or unrelated to operation), so everything that I knew was interchangable I listed. I was quite spoken down to at the time, and this topic only got me going again.

Fact is, belt units & kits are interchangable. I have been doing so for years. No problems.

I am glad to see this post. I am sure there are many other parts that may be swapped and being new at this (with both Canon and Sharp) every tidbit of information is appreciated.

As for "slings and arrows" - take comfort in your rep power, keep the tidbits coming, and let the "buggers" kiss off.

Thank you. Happy to help out.

yes, there are multiple parts which can be interchanged between machines of a series, non problem at all. The books say you cant, but in the field you certainly can. There might be one digit of a part number difference when you look at the breakdown list, so alot of wonderful swap-arounds can be accomplished.
