    code

a colleague did a pm on a mx5000. there was toner spill around the dev units and onto the laser shutters. he removed the shutters to give them a clean and reassembled the m/c with new dev, drums charge etc. during the procon setup it called K_HV_ERR.

He checked his work and found the black laser shutter not correctly fitted. the fault had gone next time procon setup was run.

What does this code signify? at first sight it would appear to be directly related to the charge not the laser .

    anyone shed some light??

When I've had that code on MX's, it was to do with the fact the procon sensors were unable to read the patches on the belt for that particular color, in your case K.
HV_ERR is a process control error. If you didnt have the laser shutter correctly positioned, it would have possibly blocked the laser writing to the K drum, therefore not putting patches down, even though the engine knew that the patches had been written due to the laser reporting that it had done so. When the belt rotated past the procon sensor, it would have read only CMY patches, no K patches, therefore tricking the engine into thinking the K drum/charge grid or HV board was at fault.
