arc 172m problem with dev roller stopping ?

hi, we have a arc172 which when colour copying every 4th or 5th copy has a streak from top to bottom where it looks like the dev roller may have stopped momentarily, this time it is on the magenta. this causes a inch wide band where the magenta toner isnt on the copy. i have had this on other cartridges also, i can hear a knocking noise coming from inside the cartridge i guess this is when the fault occurs. The dv gears are new and not cracked, and the cartridges are Sharp.

    kind regards, gareth.

The problem is the actual toner cartridge.
The 1 inch void is the rotation distance of the mg roller of the cartridge. The clicking noise is the cartridge seizing up while turning.
If you had a cracked dv gear, you'd get a thin darker line where the drum stopped rotating for a second and excess toner being transferred at that point. A void is the cartridge at fault.
There is no fix....... well there is..... but it doesnt work......... so install a new toner.

The fixes were firmware related & adding a cleaning wand to the newer cartridges. Both of these fixes were mainly for the loss of toner coverage on the mg roller of the cartridge (firmware revision made toner cartridge rotate backwards for a split second to clean doc blade & cleaning wand/unit to manually clean the mg roller by hand).

The case of your cartridge seizing up is normal with users of under-use. Its actually quite common. The firmware fixes are not 'really' related to your case, its just there have been many mods done to help the cartridges improve their life over the years.

Not much you can do I'm afraid. Unless your dealer will take them back and give new ones.
