    problem still

    Hi,
I am trying to get my toshiba laptop, running Windows XP SP3, which uses USB interfaces only, to work with my old copier SHARP AR235, which features a lpt interface. To make that happen, I have purchased the Koutech IO-UP111 USB-to-Parallel Port Adapter.
When the Copier sharp gets plugged into the USB port on my laptop, I get the "Found new hardware" message, which properly identifies my machine as "SHARP AR235", and invokes the "Found New Hardware Wizard".
In the Wizard window, when I go for the "Install the software automatically" option, it comes back with a message "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software".
Alternately, when I go back to the previous screen and instead choose the "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" option, and then -- on the page that follows -- select the "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" option, it leads me to a page where I can select the hardware type (Printers), and -- on the next page -- to the printer manufacturer (SHARP) and copier model (SHARP AR 235).
When, at that point, I proceed to install the driver, I get an "Update Driver Warning" message that reads:
"Installing this device driver is not recommended because Windows cannot verify that it is compatible with your hardware. If the driver is not compatible, your hardware will not work correctly and your computer might become unstable or stop working completely. Do you want to continue installing this driver?"
When I click on the "Yes" button, it completes installing the driver, but immediately comes back with a message "A problem occurred when installing your new hardware. It may not work properly."
Indeed, the test page would not print, thus rendering the Koutech USB-to-Parallel Port adapter useless.
    Can anyone help, please?
    Thanks in advance.

try installing the driver for the usb-parallel adapter then install the driver for the sharp.

By the way not all parallel drivers will install on a usb connection. Xerox and sharps were known for this early on.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Doesn't your laptop have a network port????
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?
