    mx-2600 fax problem

Installed fax on mx-2600 and can send faxes but cannot recieve. hook up to what they had before(fo-4550) and machine picks up on first ring. plug back into 2600 and line rings on there phone(line four is for fax) but machine will not pick up. Plug back into fo-4550 and retest and fo-4550 picks up right away. Any suggestions?

Can you hear the fax kit trying to answer?

Check that auto recieve mode is on (not manual recieve). If you press image send, look in the bottom corner of the panel, it will either say manual or auto, along with the memory allocation.
The manual/auto setting is changed in system settings/image send/fax.

It doesn't even ring at the machine. Rings about 4 or five times and rolls to phone on line 4. I have tried to set it to ring 0 times, 1 time, bit it doesn't pick up. Trying to get game plan for in the morning.

OK, first confirm that the speaker volume is on. That will tell you if the line at the fax kit is even ringing.

        Is this a PABX line?

Its obviously connected to the right port on the fax kit or you wouldnt be able to send faxes, so if you still cant hear it ringing & its set to auto recieve, there is a good chance that the fault is at the phone exchange or you have a crossed line somewhere. I've seen this before, and it was never the fault of the machine. Sounds like some sort of call-forwarding feature is activated.

I see what your saying but I am confused why it would work just fine on the FO-4550?

            Interesting one.

Maybe run memory clear 66-10. Double check recieve mode.

Curious what you find out in the end.

Have you confirmed that the fax firmware is current (01.03.P2)
Is the fax memory in the correct MFP board slot?

Are you using the sharp supplied phone cable?

Does the 4450 have distinctive ring on?

Rats, Lawrence beat me to it. Had this happen to me once and banged my head on the wall several times before customer mentioned it was a shared line.

Nah mate... not stupid.... just trying to solve an issue. Not your fault the fax line plug was not near the copier.

I did mention the Sharp cable earlier, as I remember a few of the North American guys mentioning that they have had better results using that one. There must be something in your lines over there, because we can use any old cable here with the same results.

I was in the similar situation a few weeks ago, with an MX2301, but i think the problem is quite the same.
The fax option comes with a flash card in the box, wich you have to install on the main board.
There are three slots (all three labeled "option") on the main pwb . I noticed that on the upper two slots the fax is not receiving but the send is working.
If you install the card on the third slot everything is OK.
