    sharp ar 161 paper jam

I've got a sharp ar 161 that is constantly jamming from the first paper tray, it also flashes the paper jam light whenever I try to switch to the manual paper feed tray (though there is no paper or sign of a jam anywhere) any advice on what I could do to correct these things would be appreciated! Thanks!

Does the jam clear and then you go to make a copy and it tries to feed then show a jam? If so look at the paper feed clutch for that tray. If not then do a sensor check with sim 30.

Yeah I think it's the paper feed clutch that's causing it,

what do I check it for? Do I need to clean it or adjust it in someway to keep it from jamming??

Cleaning works most of the time, if not replace the whole clutch it is not that expensive.

Hi, it can happen due to dirty feed tires, therefore just clean the tires with clean cloth soaked with little bit of alcohol, if this didn't work then check the feed clutch. Cheers

I've had to replace the registration sensor in these a number of times. Check the sensor in sim 30. You can just see the sensor from the side door below the registration roller. If it doesn't read a change of state reliably you'll have to turn that thing on it's side to replace that sensor. Not the most fun by yourself, bulky machine but once you remove the supplies it's not too awful.

Could anyone tell me what is involved with replacing the feed tires? It looks like the shaft must come off but does that mean taking the whole area apart?

It's not too bad once you remove supplies, and turn it on it's side. A couple of c-clips and the shaft will come out easily. I think the replacement shaft has a replaceable feed tire, but you still have to put it on it's side. If it has more than one drawer, it must be removed first.

time to upgrade a new one. this model consider as first generation digital copier in 16-20cpm range 15 years ago. Too much bulletins related paper jam issue, parts modification, firmware update.
                    for paper jams,
1)try to check or better replace cassette pick up roller with ar-5520series type.Common problem aper pick up 2 sheets in the same time
2)one way clucth for ps shaft broken(mean become 2ways if broken)
                    3)fusing pawls
4)fusing lower entrance sheet broken or adjusted too low level untill touching pressure roller(better change to new type that make from metal)
                    5)fusing gear broken
6)drum gear broken, cause drum not rotate, paper jam
                    7) bypass tray also alot modification.............cant finish the story.........
ps:i very hate this model because waste my time especially change main body frame or polygon motor.
