    [Misc] MXFN10 paper stacking problem

    Hi guys,

I have a few MXFN10 giving me the same problem, some of them are new machine but in different location.

I do multiple copy of 1 original, when the paper is fed out of the finisher, look like it bounce when leaving the gripper and doesnt stack properly(skew) , sometime faliing of the tray.

When doing multiple copy of more than 1 original, no problem...

Firmware is up to date. No rubber missing on the gripper.

Asked sharp tech support, told me to check the pressure on both gripper. Wanted some input from you guys before going back to the customer site.

    Anyone came across this ?

    Thanks

I've had this..... a few times now. Your video is a spot-on example of it.
It can be caused by one of two problems....

    1. Spring breakage under top cover of finisher. This spring has been modified.
Parts Guide section 10, item 5. Part is now 0CW4158P606B/.
Pictures of where to look..... This is the easier problem of the 2 to fix.

    2. When paper is ejected, the PLATE-GP-SP catches on the GUIDE SR-SG-GP-F/R attached to ejection slot, causing the GUIDE SR-SG-GP-F/R to open and paper is then ejected according.
Sometimes, the PLATE-GP-SP will not catch on the GUIDE SR-SG-GP-F/R causing either GUIDE SR-SG-GP-F or GUIDE SR-SG-GP-R (YOURS) not to open, resulting in paper being ejected at an angle onto the output tray.
Check your serial number of the finisher. In May 2010, the new modified parts were included in production.
Parts Guide section 5, item 2 is now 0CW4158P426C/ (x1)
Parts Guide section 5, item 3 is now 0CW4158P425C/ (x1)
Parts Guide section 24, item 29 is now 0CW4158P053C/ (x2)

When Sharp told you to check the pressure on the grippers, this is basically the problem.
One of the grippers (rear side in your case) is not opening at the exactly the same time as the front gripper, causing the paper to pull towards the rear.
I've had this particular issue only once. Was not a pretty fix at all. Check the first one with the spring breakage first. This is more common. I've had a few of these go with the same symptom.

Either way, one of these are the fix for your problem.

Thanks a lot Wazza, i saw the TSB of the first fix this week but didnt think it could be the solution to my problem since i didnt have any jams in the log.

I will cross my finger and hope that i only have a broken spring

        Unfortunately no broken spring

Checked the guide and i can clearly see it not opening.I will order the modified parts as suggested.

        Thanks again Wazza !

          Update............
I've had this again today, with this particular case being exactly like the above picture. The spring that is used to close the gripper arm as it retracts into the finisher had broken. This was causing the front gripper arm to be permanently open, therefore crashing into the roller shaft above it, and not exiting the machine fully. The jam code is FPDD_S, and it was constant.
Luckily its the front gripper arm, so its easy access.

PG section 24, item 31 causes the circled area in your picture to be like that. The metal part in the red circle is the part that closes the gripper fingers fully.

Received the modified parts yesterday, going to change them this morning.

In this picture, i was moving the gripper arm manually using the shaft you can access from the hole in the front cover. I stopped the gripper when it was supposed to release pressure on both side.

The metal plate on the left is not catching on the guide, going over it instead.

The metal plate just pulls down on the top of the gripper. You very well could have a broken spring inside the gripper arm like I did.
