    Sharp MX-2300N

    Hi, I'm a technician for Konica Minolta, and I have som question about a Sharp MX-2300N.

    My neighbour has a MX-2300N at his home office and it has now been asking for service for quite a while now. The code that appars in the screen is: DC. Is this the counter for Cyan drum unit?

    If it is, is it possible to reset the counter or do I have to change the drum.
    The print quality is good.

    And which adjustment do I have to run after reseting/changing the drum?

    DC means that the color drums and developer need replaced. If it has been on for quite a while there could be several other things that are due. Color drums and dev are due at 60K, black at 100K. If it is past 100K the primary transfer will also be due. You could go into the simulations and print out 22-06 and it will give you all the counters. P*C* then 22 print 06 print. Then execute I think. This will only give you what's due. I'd recommend getting a Sharp tech to install it all.

        DC is for the Cyan drum and the counter can be cleared using Sim 24 (Maintenance, Drum, Developer). The thing is, as he said, the developer will also be due (VC) - and Sim 24 can clear that. Once you clear the drum and developer counters there is a good chance that the other color drums/developers will then code - and perhaps the Total Color (TC). Soooooo, you need to be prepared to clear several counters. Best way to do that is using the Sim 22-06 he mentioned to print the totals, then check them and clear all the items at once.

        If CQ is not being impacted, then just clearing the counters should be fine. It is common for us to change developer every other drum - some people have gone longer, your milage may vary. If the customer is not close, when I change one color drum I change them all.

          If I clear the counters, do this affect det print quality? And do I have to run any adjustment after I've cleared the counters?
          In some of the Konica Minolta machines the quality may become poor if the counters are cleared without changing any part. Sometimes the quality becomes better after running a few adjustments. Could the same happen to this machine?

          My neighbour have asked the local Sharp dealer if the could take a service at his machine but they said no since he diden't have a service agreement. That's why I have been asked to see if there was anything I could do.

            Just clearing the counters won't affect the quality, but eventually it will with no new parts or developers. By the way I stand corrected, DC is just for the cyan drum. But whenever I see DC I change all the color stuff because if the others aren't due, they soon will be.
            I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

              Okey. I understand what you mean. I said soo to my neighbour, that at some point he have to change some parts.
              My neighbour also complained about the colors. He think it's too dark. Are there any adjustemts that I can try too improve the quality?

                Step one would be for him/you to do the charger and laser glass cleanings, then run the Auto Calibration. Step 2, if he still does not like the colors, you can either reset the calibration to Factory settings (using Simulation)- or adjust the colors.

                Step 1 should be in his user manual. Step 2 - Seriously consider getting a service manual as, while not real hard, is a bit involved by "long distance walk through".
