    MXM620N speckles on fax and scan only

    Unit has current ROM versions. Customer complains of speckles on scan and faxes. No CQ issues when copying. Have updated the roms and returned all settings back to default. Does not seem to make any difference what resolution you use for fax or scan you still get the small dots on the scans. Any suggestions? Have not tried 2 sided to see if it is only from the CCD or if it is from both. Wondering if someone has seen this issue or has some suggestions that I can look into.

    Thank you for your time and effort in this matter.

    Have you tried lowering the resolution? I have seen the Sharp CCD pick up dust on the underside of the glass for scan/fax but copy is fine. Also, you could try another format i.e. TIFF or PDF.
    Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

      I have had similar problem before and sim50-27 cured it. Change all default settings for scanner and fax from 0 to 3.

        Are you sure about 50-27? The default is 3 and it is for adjusting image loss in FAX/scan mode?

        Thanks for the suggestions!

          You will probably see these specs on document filing as well. The machine uses a extremly high resolution of scanning for scan jobs and document filing. It see's EVERYTHING. Go into sim 55-2 SW2 and change Bit 1 to a one.

          55-2
          SW 2
          B1=1

          This will change the scanner density to use the same settings as in copy mode.

            Thanks Lawrence, tried that setting and it did help somewhat but wound up changing the 46-12 and 21 setting from the default of 50 down to 2 before I liked the look. So there is some other issue going on here but for now the customer is happy with that setting and scans and faxes look great.

            Thank you for the help. If something else changes I will update the information.

              Nice fix but mine was just a thin faint line at lead edge of scan copies, very sure default was 0 changed to 3 to resolved the issue. I am glad is all fine now.

                Sorry missed that part. Your probably seeing the lead edge of the paper. We eliminated any of those problems changing what you did.

                50-27
                Items 10-18 set from 0 to 3 and that should correct for any lines on the edges.

                  had a mxm450 with same problem, called sharp and they wanted us to replace fax memory, hdd and control bd (mcu) . But I fixed it by going to 46-17 the odd and even ccd setings were way out of whack from the default settings. Set the ccd settings back to default of 112 and spots disappered from fax and scanning.
