      Model name:
      ARM350, ARM450, ARM350U, ARM450U, ARM355N, ARM455N, ARM355U, ARM455U

      Symptom:
In some cases, E7-11 fault code appears intermittently. Sometimes it is accompanied by
      black copies produced at random.

      Cause:
The two symptoms are related to the DC regulator on the motherboard (MB). When the
copier is kept on or running continuously for long periods of time, the regulator overheats and
gives fluctuations in the 12V1 line. The risk of getting the symptoms above is mostly related
to motherboards produced before or during August 2001. On motherboards produced from
      September 2001, the 4.1
      Ω resistor made of R1&R2 (see diagram below) is increased to 6Ω;
this way the resistor will take the extra thermal load and the regulator will never exceed its
      normal temperature range.

      Solution:
      To reduce the risk of overheating even more, a new regulator is used since December 2004;
the new one has an increased heat-resistance margin.
To correct the problem, the motherboard needs to be replaced; as an alternative, the
regulator (and resistors, if necessary) can be replaced on the old board. When replacing the
regulator, thermal conductive grease (UKOG-0188CSZZ) needs to be applied to ensure
normal heat dissipation. The corresponding part numbers are indicated in the table below.

      Model Name:
      ARM280U, ARM350, ARM350NX, ARM350U, ARM450, ARM450NX,
      ARM450U.

      Symptom:
      E7-11 At Start-Up

      Cause:
      Mother PWB

      Action:
If shading cannot be executed, the copy lamp is going to stay on for a long
time until the error code will be displayed and then it will go off.
To avoid unnecessary wear of this lamp, enter SIM5-3, select item 1 COPY
LAMP, execute and then cancel (press CUSTOM SETTINGS).
The lamp will go off before shading is aborted.
Leave the machine in SIM mode, remove the platen glass and then the
cover of the Scanner Junction PWB (2 screws). On the PWB surface,
between CN1 and CN4 (right side) you will see 3 test points, marked
      GND1, +12V and +3.3V.
      Measure +12V versus GND1; if it’s only 3 – 6V, turn off the machine,
remove the back cover and the AR-EF1 connector from the MFP Controller,
turn the machine on again and measure the voltage at the point marked
12V1 on the PCU PWB just left of CN1 (upper left corner).
If it’s 12V with the AR-EF1 disconnected but goes back at 3 – 6V when you
connect AR-EF1 back, replace the Mother PWB.
If the voltage is correct in the first place, then your CCD or copy lamp might
      be defective.
