[Error Code] Sharp SF-2216 Maintenance required light on, after being in a hot garage.

I have done research on this forum and have tried all the service codes. It was working fine, then I came in the next day and the maintenance light was blinking. It probably does not help that it was in a hot garage. I tried service code 20 but I do not know what to do once it gets to 000.

I know form reading online that everyone hates this machine but I bought it for 17 dollars at a thrift store so spare me the throw it in the dumpster remarks. Unless absolutely necessary. Then I would like to find another old copier. I used to work at an offset shop so I have a little experience with copiers. Any help is much appreciated. I won't leave it in the heat again.

Maybe this will jog one of the older techs memory but on those old analogs a blinking M light could also be a F code? Those babies were before my time.

I think you had to hold down the START button or something to get it to show up in the display. If you reset sim 20-1 and the display showed 000 it should of reset the counter and that light should of went out which makes me think there is a error.

Maybe Blackcat will know, he's old like that machine

Also nice to know some people can use the search function to try and solve their problems on their own before asking for help!

The SF-2216 is the upgraded version of the SF-2116, and they both have that prob, the blinking maint light is for a full waste toner bottle, and that "U" shaped pipe that augers the toner to the bottle, that pipe tends to clog up, being in a hot shop, or garage does not help it at all.
You need to pull the drum unit out, take out the waste toner bottle, there is a release on the front of the unit surrounds the pipe, push the bottle back a bit and it will come out, clean out all the wate toner you can, reinstall it all back into the machine, and use Sim 15 to reset the code, the machine should resart and come up to ready.
      Good luck.

yes sir, that is it, I used to have a bunch of these in the field, now down to one, worked on it today, lol.

We always ended up jumping the waste bottle switch on rear frame, solder a paper clip across it, and just dump waste bottle every call...

Remember the waste bottles clogged and packed with hard toner being next to the fuser, what a design, like mud-dobber nests all packed up.

glad these series are gone, what a machine, lol

I remember doing this on 2 machines when i first started. The first one i squeezed the bottle and all the toner broke out and i was able to shake it all out. The 2nd one i squeezed it and the bottle exploded and sent chunks of hard toner all over so be careful!

It worked!!. The tube was clogged. I did not empty the entire Waste toner bottle because I could not take the entire thing out unless I took apart the whole unit. I used a vacuum and sucked out as much as I could.

So my next question is the copies I'm making are dirty with toner streaks going mainly horizontal there are a few heavy verticals too. What is a good way to clean this?

                Thanks.

You probably need to clean the charger. Also may need to replace the cleaning blade and or drum.

Have you cleaned the optics including the mirrors under the dark box?

Sounds like this is going to get expensive to make it work right

I can live with some of the messiness but not so much. Maybe if I do one of the 500 things it will make it work better. Maybe the cleaning blade if you can even find those any more.

I think Precision Roller has the cleaning blade. If you venture under the black mirror cover to clean those mirrors, zoom to 200% before shutting the machine down. That moves the mirrors out for better access to the mirrors. Make sure you hold the mirror assembly while cleaning the mirrors or you will have Trouble.

It's easy to remove the whole drum unit first remove the DV unit & then you need to remove one blue screw on the cover of the drum unit, you will see a connector and remove three blue screw again and pull the drum unit.

                        Good luck...
