SHarp FO-2080 td recharge + chip question

I have this here because although this has fax prefix it is copier/fax/printer and a general question about recharging of cartridge that contain chips. Can too much toner be refilled into cartridge so that it actually can impede the progress of toner agitator and thus not allow toner to be added to dv on mag roller and in effect causing chip to blow.
I have used this company's chip before on this model(FO-2080) as well as FO-DC550 and it has worked so I am a little doubtful about a poorly made chip being problem. Machine is calling for cartridge with light toner triangle flashing and machine not usable. Cartridge was put in last friday and when I was replenishing the cartridge I noticed I had put more in than I would normally as toner was about an inch to 2 inches away from cap. instead of removing some I took the chanced and closed it up. There is no way customer used the toner up in a few days and I put in new chip though it is generic. As I said I have used this same chip several times without incident. I don't have a cartridge in stock but have another chip and could go there and remove some toner and install new chip. I guess i should pick up a toner locally just in case.
Your input is very much appreciated . I know there are a lot of techs out there who don't relish the idea of generic toners and chips but the money can be substantial and think of it as payback to the mfrs. who have whored machines so they could sell the expensive toner cartridges. All this at technician's expense as when customers buy the cheaper machines they will not spend much for repair when they can replace cheaply. We got screwed out of a decent amount of business. Remember when the cheaper machines were $1500 and toners were in bottles for $25? You made decent money on the less expensive machines and could count on income from supplies and pm calls.
There is an ongoing question on this site about the worst copiers ever made but you know I would not mind going back to some of those copiers that went for a couple of thou and had 5k and 10k pmsthat kept the $ flowing. AHH for the good old days and the crappy machines that brought in the revenue. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Re: SHarp FO-2080 td recharge + chip question

Have had this issue with other toner cartridges (not the 2080) even OEM, it seems that if the TD sensor doesn't sense that it is getting enough toner it will blow the chip, but you will normally hear the toner cartridge making noises. It's easy enough to put too much toner when you go to refill the cartridge but 1 to 2" you stated seems like plenty of space left over. We have stopped refilling these ourselves as the cost of a few bad cartridges negates the savings.

    Good luck.

Just an update. Went to customer thursday and toner lite had stopped flashing and machine was in ready. I did not do anything tough in retrospect I should have at least removed the cartridge and drum and checked it out. Sometimes the drum unit may be slightly different than AL series machine and not fit in exactly right which could cause toner cartridge to not always be flush in rear of machine.
Sometimes clipping a piece on rear of drum cartridge will allow it to go in better as these pieces that go thru holes in the back may be just a little to left or right or up or down so that using a cartridge not specifically designed for machine won't ling up properly in rear. Same thing for toner cartridge as the plastic piece in back with hole will allow one cartridge in and not another.
Also changing the chip would rule out if it as a specific chip problem that comes and goes.
I got a call at 8PM last night and change toner cartridge message and flashing triangle were back again. I called a little at 1:30 this afternoon and machine was in ready again and working normally. Will have to take a look on tuesday. In the meantime any info or tips are very much appreciated. Frank

PS In case you are not familiar with FO-2080 it looks just like an AL series machine except has fax feature and toner cartridge is same except for a chip.
