    [Error Code] missing IC..error U2-04

    hello,
i am a tech of canon copiers. my company also allowed us to repair multi brand copiers.
i have 1 unit here of Sharp machine AR-5520.this machine is new the customer told me he bought from a local dealer. the machine is test a few copies when the time a dealers personnel installed.
the machine is standby for 1 month without use. after that standby its switch on but error coming.

i cancel the error code by 16,15,14 but it doesn't work.
when i open the mcu power board i found every wiring connections are normal except from a vacant slot of 8 pins IC chip empty.

i dont have enough knowledge about sharp mcu board and the chip about its function.

    my question are:

1.) this chip responsible for the error code U2-04?
2.) is this chip is called EEPROM? because the error is related to EEFROM
3.)this model of sharp can work without that ic?or optional?
4.) is there another part/s that is responsible for the error?

    any idea so appreciated.

    thanks.

    Re: missing IC..error U2-04

There is no way that this machine could have made any copies. Without that chip it would go right into an error condition. One question, if they "just" purchased this machine a month ago why aren't they going back to the dealer or sending it in to Sharp, since it would still be within it's 90 day warranty period, instead of having you guys look at it?

    To answer your questions:
    1. yes, this would cause that code
    2. the chip is EEPROM not sure on the second part, basically the brains of the unit with serial number and other info for the machine to operate
    3. no, it will not work
    4. no, but see below if you get a replacement chip

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck.

U2 04 Content EEPROM read/write error (serialcommunication error).
    Detail EEPROM access process error.
    Cause EEPROM abnormality.
    Checkandremedy
*******Check that the EEPROM is properly set.******
Use SIM 16 to cancel the trouble.

    Replace the MCU PWB
