Sharp Ar-161 with F5 code -scanner chatters back and forth

When powering on the AR-161 the scanner shakes back and forth and then the F5 shows up on the display
Could anyone tell me if it is the motor or is it the board? I need to have this machine ready for tomorrow, I do have a parts machine to use if I have to, but would like to find out before I do anything, and help greatly appreciated! Steve

Scanner Shake

I have have this kind of problem before. It was a a bad or dirty sensor in the optics unit. I also had a fellow tech forget to take out the shipping screw or screws so the scanner doesnt move durning shipping. Hope this helps Jake

F5 is a copy lamp error. Check for disconnect/ replace.

Could you shed alittle more light on this? Will this make the scanner shake at power on and then show the F5 code? Thanks

the scanner moves back and forth (shakes) at power on as it gets a reading from the white strip. The lamp should be on as this happens. If the lamp is not on, it is either disconnected or needs replaced. The scanner is sold as a unit, so you must replace the entire scan unit.

light does go on

Thaks for the info, but the light does come on, it just shakes for about 7 seconds and then powers down and shows the F5 code. I have a manual on CD but it is not helping much. Anything else I can look at?

Since you have a parts machine, try replacing the scanner, if not that then the ccd.

Sorry the ccd should not have anything to do with it, if not the scaner then the mcu.

Just got a chance to look on Sharpnet here are a couple of tech tips on this.

An F5-02 error code can appear when the number 2 and 3 mirrors are out of position. The reflector (converging plate) may also be out of position. The easiest way to correct this problem is to adjust the height of the CCD. Adjust the single screw located on the left side of the CCD (when facing the copier) by 1 mm increments. It s a good idea to record your starting height measurements. Standard height from the CCD plate to optics base is 3 mm. The CCD height may range from 2 to 4.5 mm. This height is adjusted during production and may vary


Replace the broken clip on CN2 on the MCU PWB. (part number QCNCW0024QSZZ ). You can remove the clip from the new connector and put on old connector on the MCU.
