    mx2300n using too much toner

i mainly work on ricoh and have never come across this before.
customer has only done 35k b/w and 8k colour.
so far they have gone through atleast 8 black cartridges having to change it everyweek and emptying the waste toner every 2 weeks.
i cant see anything wrong with the k dev unit and the copy quality is bang on. very clean. no pictures are printed only text.

when the toner was changed today, the machine flashed up an F2-64 (toner motor error) this was cleared after rebooting the machine.

while printing and at the start when it is warming up, a grinding noise can be heard which is coming from the back of the machine. but this is only for about 10 secs.

i just cant understand why this particular machine is going through so much toner.

I guess I'd start with new developer and the developer stir 25-2 after putting in new Dev so it gets the chance to initialize. If that doesn't fix it I'd try a new dv unit. Sounds like an overtoning problem. Make sure all contacts are clean. Also check the toner density sensor output. (SIM25-1). Are you using genuine oem toner?

There are a few known issues similar to this:
*F2-64: check that the toner pipe is not clogged. The part was changed with a special coating applied to the inside of the pipe.
*Developer : the process electrodes have been changed to prevent toner leaks. This change took place in September 2010.
*Main charge unit: if the main charge fails, the machine will pull excess toner from the DV unit and quickly fill the waste toner box.
*Check the port seal on the toner cart. If you see blue, some of the packing material is still present and can cause "clicking".

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

Ask one of the customers in the office to show you how they copy, better yet if it's the person who uses it the most often. Find out if they're leaving the lid up while copying... Assuming you find nothing wrong with the parts.

UPDATE: the grinding noise issue. today i had a look at the back of the machine after moving the controller and i can see a clutch which was struggling to turn 2 other gears. this clutch controls the gear on the back of the transfer unit. after turning the gear on the back of the transfer unit by hand the noise went away but can still sometimes hear it now a nd then. what can be causing this?

there is a tech tip on the 3501 about the shaft that actuates the transfer belt. A c clip wears the shaft down and causes all sorts of trouble. Ive heard of it happening in the 2300 as well.

Ive also seen where the cams are to hard to turn. Applying light oil or grease to the transfer cams helped rotation of the belt presure.

              Symptom:
L4-06 or yellow colour missing. Yellow colour would start disappearing and especially at the front side. This is the start symptom and more the prints are made it gets worse.
              Cause:
Damaged shaft, item 33, damaged bushing, item 4, and damaged E-clip, all three of them in the section 40 (Main Drive Section).
              Action:
Replace the above mentioned damaged parts.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

Worked on an MX-3501 the other day for a noise. The secondary transfer asm. housing had warped a little and the tension roller was rubbing on it causing the secondary belt to drag and gear to slip teeth.

i would also check the K drum surface for wear, as it could be arcing and causing drum to pull to much developer/toner
