    MX2610N Color Control

    Hi All,

I have a customer who was promised a level of color control on an MX2610N that I am not sure if it exists or can be made to work.

The customer wants to be able to restrict color printing and wants their people to have to come and talk to him when they want to print color. He wants it to be a "log in" for that one print job and then walk away. The only way i can see that happening is by creating a color account and him having to enter access code of that account and then remove it after the print job has been sent.

He only wants color restricted, no code or anything for B/W. I believe this can be done for copying by checking the "allow login by other user" selection. This makes it so that the default is to the normal copy screen and people can b/w copy and if you press the login you can login as a colour user on one colour account.

They are hoping for the same functionality at the print driver end. I need to know if there is anyway of a one job password or some kind of colour control for the print driver. Right now what you see is what i can use, but I am not completely aware of what each function does as far as the driver is concerned. I know how to use account controls but they don't want to have to enter the account number and then remove it. They would rather give out a one time password and never have to leave their desk to do it.

Any Help would be much appreciated.

You can use Device Account Mode to have the machine default to a B&W account at power up. Then you would want the allow login by different users setting on. The simple fix would be a card reader with color copy authority, swipe at the machine, get your color copies, and logout. No one knows the code except the guy programming the card. If the print drivers are shared from the server, he could enter the same code once then change the driver color mode to B&W when the print job is done. Or create a preset in the print driver. The preset would already have the code in the job handling tab and have color authority.

You could set up account control with auto log in for BW and having a color account. Load the print drivers twice, have one set for BW and one set for color. On the color driver have the printer defaults set with the color log in and have hold print set. Then all they have to do is go into the color driver and set the user number, user name and job name.

Thanks guys. I figured as much that the machine couldn't do it the way the customer had wanted/expected.
