MX3501-Possible to lockout users to the color option? Also resetting scan users.

    Hi gang,

I just put out my first color rental (MX-3501N). The customer wanted to know if I can set it up to only allow certain people to make color copies. I looked through the 800+ page users manual, but didn't see anything.

Also, I set them up for scanning yesterday and they did fine all day. Today they said all of the scans were going to one computer. I did change the names of the computers from the web page setup. I'm assuming there's a resest happening. Is there a way to turn it off?

    As always, thanks.

    hi
first create a group that does not allow color copy, then submit all the users that not allowed to do color copy
to this group, all thath you can do under user control,

with scanning maybe DHCP is on

    good luck

To help troubleshoot your scaning issues, we could use a little more information. Did you use SharpDesk or set up scan to a Network Folder? If it was SharpDesk, just show the users how to update their profiles using the Network Scanner Tool.

As for the limiting color copying, you need to set up user authentication, as the other post indicated. I'm not sure, but the MX3501 may be able to allow for walk-up black and white copying without entering a code, while requiring a code for color copy. To determine that, on the web page, check under User Control->Default Settings and see if the copier has Device Account Mode AND the option for "Allow Login by Different User". If it does, let me know and I can send you detailed instructions on how to set that up.

Otherwise, turn on Authentication, create Authority Groups with the desired permissions, and then create users and assign them to the appropriate Authority Groups. Or you can use the built-in Authority Groups instead of creating new ones. The "Guest" Authority Group does not allow color copying(also prohibits color printing and color scanning), while the "User" Authority Group does allow color for all modes.

        Good Luck!

The MX3501 can't have a open walk up b/w but locked out color. You can setup the machine the exact same way as a MX4101 using the differnt user method but it won't work. Your only bet is to lock out every body using account codes and make the proper groups as mentioned above.

OK guys, I'm making progress. After figuring out the the different groups and users and getting that tied together, (I was so proud of myself.) they now can't print or scan. I looked at all of the settings on the copier and they are all checked for all of the functions. Is there something I have to change on the web page? Do they have to somehow enter their user code when printing? Thanks again.
