    MX-3500n TA maint. code

The fuser is not fusing on the bottom of the page properly. I am guessing maybe a thermoswitch? I went ahead and ordered a fuser because the IT guy said it also had a TA error code (which i believe is end of life code). The funny thing is the machine only has 12,000 pages on it...hmmmm? I do not have the service manual on this model but i took a quick peek at the machine when i stopped in and it seems like just 2 screws hold the fuser in place.?
Also to reset the code i think it is #,*,c,*
    24 then 04 clear/CA
I just want to make sure i know what i am doing before i go back out. Thank you

The fusing problem could be caused by one of the pressure levers being left up. You may want to check and make sure that they are both down.
The default for the maint. is 150k black, 100k color. The TA code comes on it reaches 90% of the set value of maint. cycle. The code is cleared in sim 24-4. If it is coming on early the maint. cycle may have been changed in sim 21-1.

Thanks. I will check Sim 21 and set it to the correct numbers if it is wrong. I do not recall noticing the lever being up but i will double check that as well. I assume that it is just 2 screws to pull it out. I will find out tomorrow either way. I am hoping to be in and out of there fairly fast as i have quite a few other machines to do. Thank you for the suggestions.

The MX series also measures maintenance by rotation time as well as copy count. This is an older machine so if you have low usage but they cycle it everyday or multiple time a day that may be why you are getting the TA code. You can check this reading by printing out sim 22-6 (4 pages of stuff) and looking at the first page to see rotation time.

          Good luck.

            Re: MX-3500n TA maint. code

Well, i found out when i got there 2 locking clips and 2 screws so it was easy.
Also the customer mis=reported the page count as it actually has 130,000 pages on it.
After replacing the fuser i found that it wasn't picking up paper from tray 1, i found bad rollers so i cleaned them up and rotated with tray 2 so i could let the jobs come out that were stored in memory. It started picking up but then accordian jammed right before the fuser(everytime for me). I found a lot od toner on the secondary transfer belt(in the door) and i ran out of time so had to leave. The next tech went out to finish up and resat everything (fuser, web, etc), cleaned up the toner and he says it is curling up in the cavaity under the secondary trasfer unit in the door. He also says when the prints do come out they are dirty. We both noticed that the belt seemed slightly worn and kind of loose. I am not sure that is what is causing the jams though.

Another quick question. We bought the fuser from a reputable dealer but in came in with a retaped box,the box was cut to remove a label from the side, writing on the top of the box and when i opened it, i found the pull strap was already removed. It seemss like it was already installed and it had a fusing web mounted. Do these normally come with the fuser web?

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Oh and Brewster, you were right about what was causing it but we found the fuser clicking anyway so we replaced it.
