    mx3100n dead machine

    Hello fellow techs!!!
I could use some assistance on an MX-3100N machine I am working on. Randomly when the machine awakens from power save mode or power cycled the machine op panel will lock up. It will not recognize any key strokes. Most of the time it just says please wait up in the top bar (where it normally says "ready to scan for copy"). ANY help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
I have talked with tech support and they said to replace the MFP board. I have done so and the problem still exists. Thanks for any and all input. THANKS!!!

If the machine has a fax kit installed, use SIM 66-10 to clear out the fax memory. I have seen a locked memory state freeze a machine on several occasions. Are you using the same DIMM and EEPROM chips from the original board? You could try backing up the EEPROM, initialize and restore it. Same thing for the HDD. I think it is SIM 56.

Funny you would mention it tends to happen after sleep mode. Sharp just released 3 new firmware patches in the past week relating to very similar symptoms on the Frontier machines..........

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

If the copier will boot up go into image send and do a address entry and start typing using the slide out keyboard. There is a USB converter board the keyboard plugs into and then the cable goes to the mother board. If that board goes bad it can cause lockups and random characters when typing.

If you pull the panel up you can unplug the keyboard to test it. The copier will run fine with out it plugged in. Little black connector with red and green wires on the right hand side.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

Lawrence, after visiting this machine again today I noticed the USB conversion PWB is bad(garbled characters). Never knew this would cause whole machine lock ups. Replaced the board, cycled machine 10-15 times with no problems. Thanks!!!!
