    Sharp MX5112 - Registration drift

Hi All, we have been doing some testing on the new Sharp MX5112 (finger swipe devices) and have noticed that the registration has a lot of drift when duplexing. For example, if you create a 2 page document with a square box in the centre of each page, and duplex it 20 times...the sqaure boxes do not line up when the page is held up to the light.
Now, i know we shouldn't get caught up on trying to make office machines do something they have limitations doing, but the drifting of the image fluctuates between perfect, 1mm out and 2mm out. If the drift stayed at a set figure, say 1mm, i would say, "yes, this office machine has a limitation on this type of precision printing", but the fluctuating nature of it tells me there is something else at play.

    Has anyone got any suggestions?

I hear shot guns do wonders for fixing copiers...JK

Have you noticed this problem on the entire series of machines or just that model? We predominately have MX2310 to MX3610 in the field. Might have something to do with fusing belt system and that they haven't quite ironed it out completely but really I don't know as I don't have that machine in our are nor ever serviced one.

We've seen this on pretty much all MX5112's and MX4112's.

I believe Sharp rushed these boxes out to be the first "iPad" on an MFP. The drift is most likely from the fuser. The first incarnation had a slew of fuser belt issues. One of which was the entire belt would shift and literally destroy itself. They are already on their 5th version of firmware for Virgo and Aries. I have had a lot of toner/DV issues with the 4111 and 5111. Also, both seem to drop connectivity frequently. It is a stylish machine, but it still needs some work.

That being said, the first year of anything new is always dicey. It seems to take about a year (........or longer, .......and sometimes...never) to work out all the "bugs".

Hi ! I'm not sure if you've found your solution yet, I do know it's imperative that Sim 50-28 is performed otherwise your registrations will be all over ! In fact this should be done before SIm 50-22. Try it ,it won't hurt !
