    MX-C311 Scanners

Sharp calls them air tight, I call them tech proof. Somehow dust can still get into these "air tight" scanners, but techs never can! Not only do I vote to change the wording from air tight to tech proof, I vote they should open up the top of these scanners to allow us to clean the internals without having to replace the whole unit!

I have only ever replaced the CCD. This is due to the fact that every time I order an entire unit, it is back ordered. I do not find it that difficult to open these. I know they had an issue with the "blue glue" releasing fumes in the optics cavity.

The issue moreso lies within the fact it's an "air tight" unit, but dust still gets into it the same as any other optics cavity. Rather than making it such a hassle to actually get into the scanner unit, the design should be changed so the optics cavity can be opened like every other optics cavity (4 screws on top). Tech proof units are very inefficient in that sense.

Had a customer spill a bottle of iodine in one, they may be "air tight" but not fluid proof.

I am not so sure they are air tight (Sharp's claim not withstanding). We had a customer really bothered by the "fog", so we pulled off all the stuff and was able to clean the glasses. Not fun, but also not tech proof.

I have to agree with all who think these are crap machines. I'm of the belief that they were designed by Mattel.
I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

Mattel makes a pretty good product.

I was thinking more along the lines of Lego, or Hello Kitty.

These Chinese kindergarten children just can't make a good plastic machine anymore. They should go back to the knock off transformers...

Surely it is designed by Sharp to make their tech's stronger and gain more resolve when fixing a copier.

We were using one in our office to see how good it was. After having to modify the ADF sep with a Ricoh sep pad laid on top it worked great (after putting new bearings in the fuser of course), then yesterday it threw up a permanent E7-21 Cyan laser diode error... now I've got a $1000 paper weight. Do you think PlaySchool will refund my purchase?
