Printing issue with Adobe (counts B&W pages as color)

    Hi all,

We have an MX-C311 copier at a financial institution. They print (using PostScript driver) out nine page portfolios, with the first two pages containing color graphs, while the last seven pages are completely black and white text.

When they print the portfolio, the copier is counting all nine pages as color. The print driver is set to Automatic. When we print a test document from Word, it correctly reads color pages as color and B&W as B&W, but Adobe Reader does not.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the copier to correctly count the color and B&W pages when printing from Adobe Reader?

    Thanks for any help!

The color scheme for Abode Reader is RGB, so any color contained in that PDF will cause the entire job to render all color. The color scheme in Word is CMYK, so it can pick out the mono and color images individually. Some of the higher end Adobe products, Photoshop, In-Design, have a built in color conversion to address this, but not Reader.

      Thanks for the info.

I am going to see what program they use to create these PDFs and see if changes can be made there. Hopefully, their program can create PDFs using CMYK and then, when they print using Adobe Reader, the copier can properly credit the appropriate pages as color or B&W.

I did create a test PDF using Word (just saved it as PDF) and then opened that PDF in Reader and it counted correctly when I printed it.

      Thanks again.

Chances are that the document was created using process blacks (C,M,Y and K make a process black).

This means that the machine will also replicate that which in turn means that it will colour click.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Try setting Text to black or Vector to black in to color tab.

in the print drive, in color advance, change neutral grey black is "black" instead " 4 colors".
            in my case works.
            good look

As Dingo said, color tab in the driver property, click on advanced color setting.

Move both slider(i cant remember the name) to the left(black only) so it wont use color to make gray and black.

                Thanks for all the suggestions.

Unfortunately, none of the tweaks for the print driver worked. It does appear that, eventhough some of the pages appear black and white, all the pages of the PDF were created in a way that makes them appear to be color to the print driver.

Sharp support did suggest moving the slider in Color->Advanced Color->Neutral Gray all the way to Black Only, but that didn't work.

The client could manually print the document and print some pages as Color and the others as B&W, but that would be too time-consuming for them. Right now, these PDFs are done monthly in a large batch print job.

So, we are going to change our billing to accommodate this customer.

Just a guess, but how about disabling Postscript Passthrough in the driver when printing PDFs to see if that helps.
Also, is it possible to try a PCL driver?

                      Hey all,
Thanks for the info,we've been experiencing similar issues at one of our accounts. Unfortunately we're a small company and I don't have access to these programs unless at a customers office. To me that's not the place to try to give youself a crash coarse. Next time I go see this customer I'll ask her to try these on a job that's been giving issues.
