    MX-4501N odd printing....

    MX-4501N 61,397 B/W 41,363 Color

The customer complained of an issue like this (e-mailed us a scan), but with Cyan. I went onsite and did not see the issue after 20-30 copies/prints, did a good cleaning of all suspect areas, did a full cal with jig... etc. Upon first running the "total count" attached, it gave the results in the attached file (same issue as before as said by the customer, but in this case, with Magenta). I ran about 10 more to see what would happen and they all resulted in the same issue.

I looked at the drum and it was still pretty much "covered". I manually rotated the drum to clean if] the debris and to check if it was locked up or something, but it seemed fine. I put the drum unit back in and did not see the problem again.... or the problem at all (IE... with Cyan or Magenta)

The customer is up and running, and satisfied with my service, but I am at a little bit of a loss as too what might have happened and/or whether or not it will rear it's ugly head again. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Firmware is up to date and I have the parts on hand (they were in a different office at the time of service) just in case it needs a PM, but from the counts it isn't really "close" to one.

Please click to see the issue I was referencing above:

If it comes back remove the drum from the drum unit and inspect the main charge unit and cleaning blade. If the screen grid on the main charge unit has turned green with corrosion or the cleaning blade has turned yellow, replace them. This happens alot with low volumes on this machine.

Thanks for the tip. I originally thought the M/C might be the culprit...but once I got onsite I didn't see it so I figured it might not be. That was with the original call of it happening with Cyan, then when I was onsite it suddenly did it with Magenta. Kinda odd.... then it went away too.

My thought process was that if it was actually a M/C, and specifically the "green corrosion" that I have come to know and love..... that it would be more of a "steady" issue and not one that comes and goes so much.

I definitely have a full set of PM parts for this machine just in case.....

I have a similar problem with an MX3501N but it only occurs when doing test prints, never during normal copying or print jobs. I changed everything calibrated with jig and still only have the problem with simulation test prints (magenta color only). That was almost 2 years ago and I never found a solution but the machine works great! Go figure. Would definetly like to hear your solution.

        Good luck.

I will certainly keep updating this thread

The major problem is this customer location is a church and they usually only do most printing once a week, if that. So problems are difficult to "See" and troubleshoot. So far they haven't called back, but they have likely only done a couple pages or so.

          ....we'll see
