[Error Code] Sharp ARM257 Code: A0-01

We have a Sharp AR-M257 with the "Security Kit" installed on it and several months ago we were getting the F6-80 and F9-88 codes together. In order to resolve it we did some board swapping and got it resolved, temporarily.

Recently, these codes came back. This time though, I flashed it with the ARFR24U firmware (because it has the "Security Kit") and now upon booting it gives the A0-01 error code.

What is the story with these security kits?

Does it "marry" the boards together?

    Can you swap boards?

Can you update the firmware on the ARFR24(U-version)?
(I saw bulletin on ARFR24 non-U version is not upgradable)

Can you NOT really "uninstall" the security kit?

What a hassle, how are you supposed to service Sharp equipment with these security kits installed?

This machine is down now, looking for any help on how to get rid of A0-01, thanks in advance.

Haven't put a DSK on anything older than an MXM363, so I couldn't say 100% what it is, however reading the manual it would appear to be the case that it requires the original boards installed to function, and I'm not sure what the difference between the authentication version (ARFR24) and the commercial version (ARFR24U) would be.

Suggestion would be to replace the new board back to the original and attempt swapping the fax board ROM chips out. The F9-88 could very well be a bad grounding on the line as well. Seems like your machine just got clusterf***ed with a number of problems.

Sorry I can't be of more help, good luck!

Looks like one of your boards might have an older ROM version. If you have the original ROM I would swap it out then update that ROM then re-install the DSK. Had to do this once before PITA but it worked. Here's Sharp's take on it. Actually I noticed this bulletin is for the certified DSK but you might want to try what I suggested if you have the original ROM still.

      Good luck.

When the security kit is installed, you replaced the roms on the boards for it. If you swap any boards, you need to move the roms to the new boards along with the square board on the back that has 2 memory slots.

If all of the boards (Control board, print board, and fax) don't all have the DSK chips all at the same time, it will throw that A0-01 code.

Let's just hope you have all the roms still from the old boards.

The difference between the U and non-U version is a common criteria testing that is done to the non-U version. Basically it's tested and guaranteed unlike the commercial U version. I've found no benefit to the non-U version yet.
