    Sharp MX2310 LDAP fault

Hi, I have a customer who is having difficulty setting up LDAP on a MX2310. The connection test from the machine web page works OK but its not picking up the global address book. I've not had a great deal of experience setting up LDAP before but if the server IP and authentication are correct (as the connection test proves) I can only think that the search root must be wrong. However the customer is adamant that its the same root that he is using on other MFPs and they work OK. Any ideas? I'm going to remote in tomorrow but not sure how to check its the correct search root. Im hoping the other MFPs are Sharps too so that I can compare.

I understand why someone would want to authenticate to an LDAP server, but why would someone need to authenticate to AD from the MFP?

LDAP is the lookup tool for AD, it basically queries AD to obtain user details, permissions, OU's etc, which is why you need to authenticate so that the server knows you are a domain user, and not someone who has just plugged in a non-domain laptop and is trying to harvest usernames. You cannot really query LDAP without also querying AD, they work together.
