MX-C 311 Operations Panel LCD failure

    Hey Guys,

I got a funky MX-C311 LCD panel. The buttons work fine and it will still make copies but the panel looked like the video above when I arrived. I took the thing apart and reseated all the connectors in the ops panel and LCD area as well as the connectors that run along the left side to the back of the machine.

When i turned it on again the lcd seemed to have stabilized a bit. It is clear enough now to press buttons on the lcd but there is a severe ghosting and all the dark areas are flickering really bad. I am hesitant to order a whole new Ops Panel as the buttons work fine. I am thinking it is either the LCD itself or the LVDS PWB P2 on the back of the lcd. (Parts located in the parts guide)

I hope to order parts tomorrow, I am just looking to see if someone has any ideas or leads as to what might be causing this or if someone has seen this before.

    Thanks a Bunch

There have been some changes to the LCD and associated PWB's. See MFP-TB-632 for all of the part numbers and changes. They are pretty extensive! They don't state why these parts are changing but the date on the change is from July of this year with a High priority.

    Good luck.

Looks like I can't find that bulletin on the Sharp Sites I have access to. There are not listed on ssap.com nor Sharpnet.sharp.ca. Must be because I am in Canada.Any possibility of posting that bulletin?

About two years ago the MX-2600, MX-3100 went through the same mod and one of the reasons was for a problem similar to what you posted

Thank you sir. Very much appreciated. I am going to try a entire used Ops panel for the time being as the service Contract is nearing end. If that fails for me then we will dig in and make the changes as per this bulletin.

              Thanks again!

I had an odd problem like this a couple of weeks ago. The screen would flicker when making copies and leave void areas on the copy. I replaced the transfer unit (as it was due for maint. Anyway) and the screen stopped flickering and output was excellent. Thought I would have been temporary but called the customer today to follow up and all seems to be working fine.

Just curious, if you have another transfer unit? If so replace it. Now that I watched the video, looks EXACTLY like what I was getting. Let me know the outcome on this, PLEASE.

That's an interesting one Dustin. I can't say I see the correlation between the two, however it will be noted and attempted... Quite bizarre.

Did you figure out why the belt had fixed it?

That is very interesting....I am going to have to give that a try when I got there next. That would be too freaky if that worked. "Maybe a roller popped out and is shorting something or altering voltages" my co worker says...too weird

No, I have not found any visable flaws with the belt unit. However, since this thread brought it back to my attention. We recently got another MXC311 in stock, so I took the old belt unit from that machine and put it in our (working fine) BRAND NEW MXC311 and the screen did the EXACT same thing as on the other machine. Put the original transfer back in the machine and it was fine. EXTREMELY wierd issue, and have no idea why it fixed it.

what did you find on this one, I am interested. Just want to see if my transfer belt issue was just a fluke or if it is a problem some where... Thanks!

It is an out of town call, I just got my Xfer rebuild kit and rebuilt it. I will be heading there tomorrow. Hopefully this fixes it. I also have a used ops panel along. I will update you with the fix once I return from the customer. They are a 2 hour drive from our city so it will be a long day to take care of all of this.

Either way, thanks for the help.

So I replaced the Ops panel with no change. I pulled out the Transfer with no change, I put in a new transfer with no change. Return machine to it's originals no change. Reseated the ROM chips with no change. Reseated connectors no Change. Reseated connectors again and the display worked perfectly. Looked like one of the connectors could be pushed in and would stop appearing to be in all the way. I had to push really head and it clicked in and then it worked. I have no idea how the connected got loose in the first place but that was the simple and irritating fix.

                              Thanks for your help!!!
