    hercules stapled packet stacking problem

long title i know... i have an mxm1100 with a mxfnx5 finisher. when running stapled packets. the first packet will drop on the exit tray and slide back correctly, the second packet will drop on tray then slide back and catch on the staple from the previous packet, and so and so on for every packet that comes out. causing a completly disorganized stack of papers. i installed a new staple unit thinking it just wasnt stapling tight enough. this solved the problem for the thicker packets (20+ pages) but there is still a problem with the small packets (3-5 sheets). i have played with the jogger adjustments with no luck. and the machine is up to date on firmware (engine and finisher). i called sharp and was told the one they have at headquaters does the same thing so they basically have no advise other than firmware. this is the customers second machine with the same options, they didnt have this problem with the first machine so its not normal

    any help would be appreciated..

Re: hercules stapled packet stacking problem

We have the same issue with both of our MXM850's w/ FNX5 finishers. I noticed 2 things when I watch this. The shift tray doesn't seem to move down as far when stapling and the small gathering rollers don't activate to pull back the copies so they just stack up whatever way they want. I wondered about this but since both of ours do it and the client didn't complain we didn't think anything about it. Would be nice to know if there is a remedy both of our units have current ROM versions.

    Good luck.

      hi
did you try shifting the stapling position with simulation

just 1 or 2mm up or down to see if that makes any difference
      cheers

It will slow the machine down but you can select offset in the output mode and each set will offset the other one so the staple positions will not lineup.

I think this will work if if is a single staple, but for double staple it won't.

If the sets are offset then even the double stapling will be ofset from the previous set.

I'm going to correct myself here - if less than 2 sets, this will work, but the third set will catch the staple of the first set. With double stapling, the paper will hit the staple regardless if offset or not.

You will have the thickness of the previous packet as a buffer between sets 1 and 3, this should stop the staples of packets 1 and 3 from contacting each other.

I'll grant you that, but Silvertoast is having problems with sets of 3-5 pages.

actually when u choose staple the offset option disappears? plus the cust wants them in a neat stack. also forgot to mention when you pick the packets up and tap them on the table ( like when your tring to straighten a stack of papers) the edges will go under the staples also
