    [Misc] A MX-m260 Story

(MXM260 w/ print board, fax, and NSX1) Got a call, an MX-M260, customer says the machine is in telephone mode and they have to manually receive faxes. Get on site and is true, ok, lets check the image send system settings. Try to do an administrator login and get "this setting has been disabled by system settings". Weird.. Go into sim, can enter main sim number, but cant do any sub number other than 22-5. (ie. locked out of all subsims, even special commands). Weirder.. (never had it happen before, EVER). Start to worry a rouge softswitch has been flipped somehow, cant check, cant do a 22-6 or see any switches under sim 55 (won't let me in). Figure lets code the machine out, pull the charge unit out and restart, no C code. Replace charge, unplug lamps, get an H code, still cant sim. Plug lamps in. Pull flash roms, either get no boot or another code but cant Sim (tried several combinations). Pulled print and fax, machine boots normally, all sims ok. Thinking something is still very wrong I got extreme and decided to do an MFP all clear, (after recording all sim 22 values) while I had the chance, runs sim ok. Add fax and print back, machine goes right back to a troubled state. Removed fax only and machine was ok. Checked phone line and was a 4 wire line, chased the wire back to an old panasonic PBX, connected directly. Boot machine w/o fax line and machine was ok, as soon as I plugged the tel line back in the mach went right back to troubled state. Reran line w/ 2 wire cord and mach was ok. (Or so I thought). Turns out the MFP clear scrambled the software serial #. Only found out while reprogramming the NSX key, and it rejected the key. Had sharp reissue the key w/ the new serial, machine still rejected the new key. Tried a mfp clear again, thinking it may pick up the origional serial, nope, a new completely RANDOM software serial was generated, (tried a few times and a new random number was picked again, each time). Currently have the machine reprogd and using trial mode scanning as a work around. (Turns out the cust's IT/phone guy bypassed the surge suppressor and ran directly to the pbx w/ a 4 wire cord) Moral of the story: Dont use any of the mfp/pcu/print/scan mem all clears in special commands & always use a 2 wire phone cord at the machine side. (I still have the s/n issue but the trial mode has given me some time to work it out with my sharp rep., but if anyone can help first via PM (s/n reprog info should stay quiet) please let me know) A story and maybe a TIA Nachoman4life Sorry for the blob text, I've still got to get the formating down on CTN, looks fine when I type it but posts as a blob)

Have had a ton of issues with the ARFX7, was hoping with the new system they would take care of them. Oh well one can always hope. Have you tried a different FX7? Didn't see that in your "blob". Will definitely be interested what your solution is.

    Good luck.

This is the exact reason I don't use those codes unless advised by someone at Sharp. Good luck fixing it! If you're still locked out I'm sure myself or someone else who knows would be able to share the elevated sim menu command if you have not yet already received it, but be very cautious, as that menu can be even more hazardous to your cause.
