    [Misc] Device Driver Issue

    AR-M237 model.

I am using this copier in a home office. I am trying to install directly to a WIN 7 64bit system via USB cable. I downloaded the PCL6 drivers and ran set-up with the USB cable unplugged as directed. After I rebooted the computer, I plugged the USB cable in and I get nothing. In the device manager the unit is listed under "other devices" with a question mark. It's like the computer isn't seeing when I plug the USB cable in and installing the driver. Is the PCL6 driver package the correct one? I'm not networking. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Use the GDI driver instead of the PCL6. Should get a better result. After installing and restarting windows sometimes the driver will still not show up so you might need to use the add printer function (have only had this happen a couple of times but worth mentioning).

    Good luck.

Likewise with what Bilyahn said, the PCL6 driver will work, but only if you have the PB17 printer expansion kit and the NSX1 network scan kit. If those two items are not present, only the GDI driver will work. It should be obtainable on Sharp's USA website.

Thanks All.. I think I tried the GDI driver and it showed in my Windows printers list as the default printer but wouldn't print a test page. I think I remember it asked if I wanted to use USB001 (or USB01). Any other trick to try? I will try it again.

Also any easy was to know if I have the PB17 or NSX1 kits? I got this copier/printer off lease with only a 250k page count. According to the service card, It was just serviced a month ago. I picked it up for $200. I'm a end user and really appreciate your time. I know your time is money!

        Thanks again,
        Bill

Press the Image Send button on your display, it will either show the address book info or will say optional equipment not installed.

That will inform him if the NSX kit is installed (or if the trial scans were activated, potentially worse). To see if the printer expansion board was installed, take a look at the back of the copier where everything is plugged in. If there is an RJ-45 port and a USB type B port then the PB17 is installed, if there is only a USB B type port then it is the base print board that comes standard.

No RJ45 (it's blanked off).. So I guess I need to get the GDI driver to work.

              Thanks again..

                Re: Device Driver Issue

Sometimes when installing drivers to print via USB, you will get the initial USB001 print port created, but after installing a driver and rebooting Windows, you may get another port created such as USB002. If this is the case with your PC, try changing the print port to the later USB port and try a test page again.

This is a Windows thing and has nothing to do with the Sharp driver. I have seen this so many times with other manufacturers as well.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Thanks everyone.. The GDI driver worked fine. I first uninstalled the other drivers, rebooted and did a fresh install.

                  Again, thanks for your time!!j
