    MX-4101N U2-30 Error

    Hello,

We recently got a Sharp MX-4101N shipped to us, and needless to say, it was not in working condition. After responding to several error codes and successfully clearing through them one by one, we seem to have hit a wall with this one. The error code is U2-30. Looking it up in a service manual, I can safely say the error has to do with either one or two EEPROMs on either the MFP or PCU PWBs. We have a working MX-4101N in the shop, and I've already replaced (one by one) the EEPROMs on these two boards. Every time I get the same U2-30 error. I'm not sure where to turn. These boards (the MFP and PCU PWBs) are brand new from Sharp.

Has anyone out there run into something similar? Does anybody have any ideas?
Help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time,
    Jon

You will need to run sim 49-5 with the HDD watermark ROM update on a USB thumb drive. This will get rid of your error code. I would follow that up with a service ROM update using sim 49-1 right after that. Did you happen to try to clear the code with sim 16? Normally this won't work but was just wondering.

    Good luck.

As you can see in the service manual, it's a serial number discrepancy in the EEPROMs. There is one on each of the MFP PWB and the PCU PWB and they both contain relative data (eg. counters, serial numbers), they should both be replaced simultaneously from one source, but doing so will move all relative data. I've had a U2-30 error from a brand new MX3100 straight out of the box, unfortunately nothing could be done to resolve it and it had to be replaced by Sharp.

Occasionally the serial data may not be entered correctly at the factory, and this is the result. The only thing that could even be suggested would be to try to change the serial data in the EEPROMs with the elevated sim commands. This is something I can't recommend doing as you could do further harm to the machine, best bet to just contact Sharp and arrange for a replacement.

I've never heard of being able to do that. Interesting...

        In Response to bilyahn:

I will have to try that next. If nothing happens I'll respond back.

        In Response to Akitu:

The machine was not a new machine from Sharp, it was used and came from another company. Although it is very helpful to know they need to be replaced from the same source. Currently they are but had I not known that I probably would have used EEPROMs from separate sources.

Thank you to both responses, very helpful.

Sounds like the other company may have done some board pillaging. Attempt what Bilyahn suggested, then attempt to replace the EEPROMs and sim 16, if all else fails you may have to resort to elevated sim commands or contacting Sharp.

After the watermark update and Sim 16, everything appears to be functioning correctly. I made a successful copy and network print. The next step is getting scan to network folders set up. Thank you for the advice, much appreciated!

That's great, glad the assistance helped you out. I didn't know about the watermark update... Something to bookmark in case of a future need.

I actually just did this on an MX3110N that we are working on in the shop, after we did the sim 16 this error kept coming back so I did the watermark on the HDD and the error went away.

That's so strange. I'll definitely be informing co-workers of this. Very good tip as I know it's been happening elsewhere in our company...
