Sharp MX-2700N New black drum from supplier: magenta toner all over it and in the bag

Hello, I am getting ready to do my first PM on an MX-2700N and wanted to know if the new black drum is supposed to be coated with Magenta toner. There is quite a bit in the bag, especially at the end. The part is from a national parts supplier and is supposed to be new. I know Ricoh uses yellow toner on their drums for their color drums and also the black drum. So maybe this is normal, but I want to make sure. If there any tips in installing the drum and DV unit and transfer units please let me know. Thank you in advance!

I'm sure they do testing at the factories, but I've never seen a brand new unit show up with toner on it... Only starting powder, which is typically white. Sounds like your drum may have been mispackaged? As long as the edges don't show aluminum, it should be fine, especially as a black.

I've seen some that come directly from Sharp that have some color toner from testing. It's never a whole lot of it though.

I've seen a few that have some residual toner in the foam from their testing, but never as much as was described.

common for us to get them. if u get the complete pcu unit it will have toner on it. if u get just the drum for rebuilding it will have setting powder.

            I assume that's not Sharp.
3rd party reman's may be cheaper, but you get what you pay for.
Probably a good chance that it even has a Katun drum in it, and good luck getting full yield out of that.

Thanks everyone for the input - it is a genuine Sharp part from Precision Roller - they are sending me another one. THey checked the other drums in stock and they did not have Magenta toner all over them and in the bag, so I suspect it was a returned item and they did not check it and then resold it to me unfortunately. So now I have to tell me customer it will be a few more days... Btw, is the seconday transfer roller really necessary to change after 200K? I did order a primary.

I can only advise you, but you may be better off buying the GENUINE' parts from Sharp.
Those models drum blade and charge unit do not age gracefully.
How can you guarantee they are replaced by the party rebuilding these units, for all you know they may have only vac'd out the waste toner and slapped a new drum in, foregoing the MK kit.
The drum and dv units are not very hard to rebuild, and you, yourself, get to guarantee it was done right.
Just my 2c on any re-manufactured unit.

even the genuine sharp pcu's that come directly from sharp (thats all we use). have some toner on them. they shouldnt be coated in toner but will have some on the drum and blade i guess from where they test them?

Also appreciate the additional advice. I had not thought of purchasing directly from Sharp, but I am an independent tech so not sure I can do that.
I will check the next drum carefully to make sure it is new and the drum is coated properly.

Secondary transfer does not need to be changed often. If the rest of the machine is well kept you can typically get double or even triple the expected life out of it, same goes for the primary transfer, though after a few hundred thousand it starts having difficulty calibrating...

Make very sure to clean and repowder the drum blade with fresh powder. I have had brand new drums and units flip blades because of old powder. Also if it is a low to mid volume machine to replace the maint kits at around 30k. Main charger tends to crap out under low volume.

Maybe that's more of a regional thing? I have had several of these machines exist on less than 10k a month between black and colour and never had a problem with them going early... Typically get 120k out of blacks and 65-75k colour regardless of their volume.
