    F1-00

I've got a MX5110N with a MX-FN18 finisher and the MX-PNX6 punch that has been giving the customer a F1-00 code. I went out last week updated the firmware, checked the staple home position, checked the wall power and reseated/checked the connectors/harnesses for the finisher control pwb and the pcu pwb. The customer called me today and let me know the code has come back several times since I was out. Before I order boards in I wanted to see if someone else has run across this or has any ideas outside of what I have checked/done. The code has come up during saddle stitch/single staple and no staple.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Check the connector on the machine side, I've had a couple that one of the locking tabs didn't catch and the harness would not fully seat.

I'd have to agree with Zootech based on Occam's Razor.

        Re: F1-00

From a reliable source down south:

"1. Possible faulty Punch unit control board. Even though its a finisher comms error, I have had a faulty punch control board cause this. The finisher control board & the punch control board are harnessed together and a problem with the punch board can pull the volts down enough to cause the code. I have even seen this on an old FNX4 with punch (virtually exactly the same finisher & punch units).
A good test is to remove the punch unit for a day and see how it goes. You'll need the other type brackets to mount on the side of the engine as the screws will be in a different spot for the finisher mounting, but sometimes, removing options like punch units (these control pwb's play up big time) is the best diagnostic tool you can use.

        2. Check there is any F1-23 codes recorded in the trouble log too. If so, check the 23-02 data to see if the F1-00 & F1-23 codes happen at the same time & page count. I have had this F1-00 code randomly appear on a FN-11 finisher (basically same finisher inside except not saddle stitch), and the user display only showed F1-00, but there was also F1-23 being recorded at the same time. Traced the cause to an extremely tight harness cable-tie pulling the bundle exit push motor plug almost at a 45 degree angle from the plug itself. After cutting the cable-tie to release the harness tension, it never occurred again.

There is a very good chance its the RB drawer comms board on the side, or less likely the finisher control board or dodgy power to the machine (seen that cause finisher codes before as well), but from experience with that code, symptoms and same finishers/punch units, try my suggestions too.

Oh, also make sure the firmware for the finisher is at least 01.04, prefer 01.05."
