    L4-11 error code and noise

Hi All, I've come across a nasty one and am wondering if you can help out. I have an error code L4-11 on an MX-M182D. It occurs when I switch on the copier, and the shift motor moves to the rear. It appears to not want to stop, makes a grinding noise, then throws up the code. We had something similar before and it turned out to be the MCU PWB, so naturally I went for that. It wasn't the answer. I have changed the shift motor assembly which also contains the home position sensor and no joy.
    Any ideas?

Most Sharps will give that code if the finisher is unplugged at power up.

      There's no finisher involved.

The shifter home position detection signal is not detected when initializing the shifter.
Shifter motor abnormality, improper connection or disconnection of the harness, shifter home position sensor abnormality.

        Check and remedy:

Use SIM 03-11 to check the shifter motor operations.
Check connection of the harness/connector of the shifter motor.
        Replace the shifter motor.
        Replace the MCU PWB.

Thank you for that, but I've seen the service manual. We had something similar a while ago and it turned out to be the eprom. This was on a brand new device that was faulty out of the box. The device that we have now gas done a couple of hundred prints before showing the fault.
          Any other ideas?

Have you cleaned the shift assembly shaft? They tend to bind have also had the small metal flange that holds the assembly follower rollers together on the front side come loose causing similar problems.

            Good luck.
