    MXM232D Tray 1 detect switch

So, Sharp moved the tray 1 detect switch to the left hand side of the machine. If my tray is pulled out even 1mm on the left hand side the tray is detected as being removed.

Anyone seen this happen and have a fix for it? So far the only thing I've been able to do is glue a paper clip to it but as soon as the customer slams the tray back in, the clip falls off. I've cut off some very fine choice pieces of plastic off of other copiers but plastic doesn't stick with glue to more plastic very well...

Brought it back to my shop, ripped out toner/dev crtgs and laid it on its back to get a better view of how the sensor is working.

Sharp moved the tray 1 detect sensor from the right side closer to the middle between front and rear frame to the left side and shifted it slightly further back so the back of the left arm of the tray would hit the micro switch. Turns out my tray is barely nudging against it while fully inserted, and the amount of free space in my tray 1 bay allowed just enough wiggle room for the left corner to be pulled out 1mm and stop tripping the micro switch.

My solution? Took a paperclip and melted the corner of the tray where it's supposed to meet up with the micro switch and instead melted the paperclip into the tray... It's not pretty, but it works now.

If anyone else has had similar problems or a better solution, it would be appreciated.

I normally try to bend the tang of the microswitch first to see if I can get it to make better contact. Don't have one of these units yet so will have to make a note of this problem for future reference!

It's a pretty odd switch, can't say I remember seeing any like it but I've never really had to look or make note.

        Switch shape is somewhat like

        o
        /\

Rather hard to bend a triangle that's been reinforced on the sides to prevent bending. My terrible illustration attempts to convey the image.
Switch is overall very flimsy, but definitely seated correctly in this instance, I think it's a factory molding issue.
