    new install
    been there a week
    error u2-23 could not enter sp mode with fax option hooked up
    removed fax option
    run sim 16 reset code
    reinstall fax option
    i am new to sharps
    do i need to update firmware?

    This code is not listed in the 264 manual but it is in the 283 manual as a checksum error. Upgrading firmware would be a very good start. Here are a couple of other choices from the MXM283 troubleshooting guide.

    Trouble content

    Check & Remedy

    Turn OFF/ON the power to initialize the data related tothe content of check sum error.Since the registered contents are deleted, register thedeleted contents again.Use SIM16 to cancel the error.
    Replace the MFP PWB.

      You can not enter simulation mode when you are in the fax screen, instead your code is put in like a phone number. I was able to enter simulation by choosing copy directly after the machine booting, or by hitting the simulation keys over and over from the sprite screen until it loaded right into sim missing the fax mode.
