I've got an AR-168D that I've got a small problem with. Customer complained of doc feeder not working. Went out, sure enough, it wasn't.
When trying to copy through feeder, it just let's out a high pitched whine, and does nothing. The feeder never attempts to start. I noticed that the whine seems to come from the scan mirror, which, when copying through feeder, looks as though it attempts to start across (sometimes just a bump, although at other times it would actually move a few inches before it stopped). As I'm sure you're aware, the 168 is like the 200D, where the lamp/mirror rests on the left side, but the slit glass is on the right, so it has to travel all the way across to scan stuff from the feeder.
The thing is, there's no problem scanning from the glass. The lamp/mirror has no trouble traveling in those cases.
Then, when I had the covers off, it all of a sudden started working. So I put the covers back on, made probably 3 copies through the feeder, then it stopped working and went back to what I described earlier. So at this point I'm thinking there is a communication problem with the feeder (because when testing motor in sim mode, everything seemed to work ok). So all I do is wiggle the wiring harness running from the feeder to the board, and it starts working again.
My question is, how do I tell if it's a harness issue, or a board issue. Or is there something else that it could be that I'm missing?
