Setting up scanning on a sharp mx4500

    Hi,
can any one explain to me how to set up scan to folder(and)or scan to email on the sharp mx 4500. Or if possible, send me a Guide? Also, which driver would be best. 32or 64 bit?
    thanks in advance.

Judging by your question, I'm going to assume you're an end-user. There is no "best" driver, only one corresponding to your computer operating system.

If you go into the start menu, and find either "Computer (Windows Vista/7) or My Computer (Windows XP)", right click it and go into properties. In there under "System type" you should see if it's a 32 or 64 bit operating system, and should choose your driver accordingly.

In order to set up scanning to folder, you need the folder shared on the network and need the network path of the folder "//[computer]/[folder path]..." This address can be added to the address book for quick reference in the future.

For scan to email, you need to have the DNS address of your ISP or router, and the SMTP settings of the mail service you'll be using. If the mail service is over an exchange server, the copier will need a username and password for authentication purposes, and you'll have to use an available SMTP port, port 25 is standard but has become restricted on many ISPs as of late due to spam prevention methods - in which case you'll likely be using port 587 but will need support for SSL.

With all of the above information, you can proceed to the copier's webpage, located through its IP address, which can be programmed in the system settings. From there, all of the info must be input under "Network Settings -> Protocol Settings" and fill out the info accordingly under SMTP etc.

    Good luck.

These machines have emanuals located on the copier web interface (all the newer Sharps have them). Take a look at these and along with the above comment you should be able to get what you want accomplished.

          Good luck.

Surprisingly, this shit isn't in the manual. I think there's some tech tips or bulletins about setting it up, but after doing so many hundred you can learn to commit the process to memory... A poor choice by Sharp, but I suppose it does save them on their manual sizes.

Press "System settings" key, in top of screen will be "Admin password" button. Password by default is admin; after logging in, press down arrow key on right side, there is a key "Network settings" and in here is a submenu called "IP address settings".

I know it's a little too simplistic compared to Canon, where you may have to spin around 3 times in a circle patting your head and swinging your right leg, but it should be pretty clear from there.
