[Misc] Turn Docucate CD-2501 into Sharp MX2700

Docucate is going away I guess, unfortunately. So, we would like to flash the firmware of a Docucate CD-2501 and preferably make it a Sharp MX-2700 (or a MX-2300 if we had to). Has anyone done this and been successful or have any information/tips on performing this?

When we had a Lanier equavalent to an AR650, I asked the Sharp people at school if a Sharp ROM update would work for this series and they stated "NO" but were not 100% sure. I never did try this as we replaced the machine shortly thereafter. Unfortunately that is all the information I have on this. If you have the old ROM version I think there is little harm in trying the other ROM. I have always been able to re-do the ROMs on Sharp machines.

    Good luck.

Just recieved some interesting information from down south. Here is what I have been told.

The Oce & Duplo versions of the Sharp MX engine can apparently be changed to a Sharp by performing the emergency firmware upgrade procedure. The emergency firmware mode will overwrite all of the flashroms & onboard mfp/icu roms completely, whereas the regular update mode of 49-01 will not fully overwrite everything and you will get firmware incompatible errors.
Once done, you'll have to use genuine sharp consumables, as the firmware will be looking for that, especially the crum chip data.

Be advised that this is for informational purposes only! Try this at your own risk! The procedure has not been done by anybody that I know of but they have heard that it can be done.....

      Good luck!
