    Windows 8 + GDI printing

Hey guys, I have a customer at the Salvation Army using an ARM237 by GDI printing. Without consulting us for compatibility first, they downgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8. There are presently no drivers supporting this series on this new OS, has anyone had any experience with W8 and GDI printing? I suggested to them to try the W7 drivers but they're reporting no functionality still.

If anyone has any ideas how to get them printing again and can provide some assistance, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

By now most manufactures have W8 drivers available for most of their models.
Over 6 months ago I had to use the driver that comes with W8 for a KM machine and it worked but i had to populate the driver with the accessories manually.

    Hope this helps.

It's a near 10 year old Sharp, there's presently no support in either 64 or 32 bit Windows 8 formats for this series. Sharp's support of W8 is limited to newer models and from what I saw when searching in 32 bit format only (though 32 will work in a 64 bit OS), but that support is also limited to PCL.

This machine never had a printer expansion kit and doesn't function with PCL drivers, only GDI.
Presently W8 does not seem to have a native printer driver for this model.

Seems the last round of driver updates on ssap/sharpnet was in early February.

Have you tried a basic HP driver?

Their IT person couldn't get it working with an HP driver.

          Suppose they're SOL.

i think that win8 will update the sharp driver through Microsoft server. The pc ll ask you window update if cant find the driver when you plug the usb cable from 237 to pc.

I talked to sharp a little while ago and they said they will have windows 8 drivers in about 6 months. Don't know about GDI but I use windows 7 drivers. Probably not much help, huh.

Good to know the drivers will be released in July, I guess they'll have to sit tight and wait for the driver release schedule. I called them and told them to try the compatibility mode, still waiting to hear back from their IT.

                  Thanks for the suggestions, guys!

I have had the same problem, but with a different Manufacture. We had an older machine that does not have 8 drivers and they do not intend to supply them. What we did was used a driver from the next machine of that series that they came out with that was basically an update of the older machine. Even though the driver said it was different, it worked. If you can get an 8 driver for the upgraded version of the machine you are talking about, you may have the problem solved. Good luck.

I seriously doubt Sharp will do a driver for 8 when they didn't do one for 7 on the 237. Try using OS 7 drivers for the AR-M317. Basically the same machine. I have a customer using AR-208 drivers to print to a AR-275 running OS 7. Have they tried a simple generic driver?

As stated in a previous post, generic HP drivers weren't working according to their IT.

I don't know where your source came from for this information about Sharp not having a W7 driver for the 237 series, but it's definitely wrong. There is absolutely a Windows 7 driver, GDI, PCL and even PostScript.

Scheduled release for W8 drivers on the Andromeda series is in July. Confirmed by Sharp.
